Condition: Blindness

In the unique spiritual framework of the Order of Dreamweavers, the state of blindness is not viewed as a disability, but rather as a divine blessing from IAE, the GODHEAD. This perception stems from a core belief that those deprived of their physical sight gain an enhanced ability to perceive the realm of dreams and visions, granting them greater access to magic, or what the Order refers to as an "Awakened" state.    

Origins

  The roots of this belief can be traced back to the inception of the Order of Dreamweavers itself. It is said that the first Dreamweaver was a blind seer named Orinthia, who was renowned for her powerful visions and her unique ability to manipulate the energies of the Astral Sea. As legend tells it, Orinthia was the first mortal to hear the whispers of IAE in her dreams and it was through her that the GODHEAD communicated her teachings. This narrative forms the backbone of the Order's belief system, establishing the blind as the chosen ones of IAE.  

Historical Significance

  Throughout history, numerous blind individuals have played critical roles in shaping the doctrine and practices of the Order. Their significant contributions have only served to strengthen the association between blindness and divine favor. It's also worth noting that there have been instances of members intentionally blinding themselves, a practice known as "Seeking IAE's Embrace." This act, though extreme and rare, underscores the profundity of this belief.  

Benefits and Concessions

  This unique societal perspective significantly impacts the lives of the blind within the Ochal Confederacy. As they are considered to be blessed, blind individuals often occupy esteemed positions within the Order, particularly those showing an aptitude for the Arcane. They are exempted from certain civic duties and are offered the support and resources necessary to cultivate their magical abilities.   Their heightened status also extends to secular life in the Ochal Confederacy. Given the Order's influence, the blind are generally treated with a measure of respect and deference, irrespective of their affiliation with the Order. They are provided with accommodations in their daily lives and have a right to assistance from the community as needed.   Moreover, the birth of a blind child is considered a cause for celebration rather than concern. These children are referred to as "IAE's Chosen" and are often given special education and opportunities to explore their potential connection with the Astral Sea and their possible magical capabilities.  

Controversies and Criticisms

  Despite the widespread acceptance of this belief, it has not been without controversy. The practice of "Seeking IAE's Embrace" has been criticized by some factions within the Order, considering it an extreme and unnecessary act of devotion.   The idea that the blind are inherently more attuned to the Arcane also faces skepticism. Critics argue that such a belief oversimplifies the complexities of accessing magic and unfairly burdens the blind with heightened expectations.   Nevertheless, the belief in the divine blessing of the blind continues to shape the identity of the Order of Dreamweavers and the wider Ochal Confederacy. It highlights the unique way in which the Order interprets physical limitations, not as hindrances, but as pathways to greater spiritual and magical enlightenment. While this perspective has generated some debate, it undeniably contributes to a more inclusive and supportive environment for the blind in the Ochal Confederacy.
