Myth of The Watcher

The Watcher is the Nemanoi god.He watches through the Watcher's Eye gate, punishing dishonesty and rewarding integrity.

Mobile objects that are picked up in another time slot are thought to be given to the Watchers children or borrowed by them if they return.

Stationary objects from the Jimenna culture are included in the Nemanoi religion as artifacts or landmarks from the days when the Watcher walked with them. 970-1046 UGD

Summary

The Watcher is an entity that watches the interactions of the Nemanoi when the Watchers Eye gate is open. He punishes dishonesty and fraud severely and rewards integrity.

The stationary objects on their planet are believed to belong to the Watcher's children and when mobile objects become stationary and are moved by the Jimenna the Nemanoi believe that the Watcher's children needed it more than they did and so the Watcher gave it to them. If they saw a Jimenna they would not think they were the Watchers children but they do not know what these children look like. They assume that the Watcher and the Watchers children all look similar to them.

Historical Basis

The Byni used to come and visit the Nemanoi and they may have even traded. It was the Byni that taught the Nemanoi capitalism and set up their market, society, and government in 483 and they had several centuries to interact before the Itherians came.

Spread

Only the Nemanoi believe this mythology

Variations & Mutation

The concept of the Watchers children was added as an explanation for things going missing.

Cultural Reception

It is central to all things in Nemanoi society, it is unknown to other societies.

In Literature

There are many poems and all the books include references to it as it is a natural part of their lives.

In Art

There are beautiful artistic renditions of the gate in fact almost all Nemanoi art includes it in some way. The Watcher is depicted as red with pointed ears, brow ridges and curly hair. The image has morphed over the years and most people think that he can be portrayed any way as long as those features are included. Many will say, "no one knows what he looks like."

There are statues in the temples with these features and since they are stationary objects they also influence the Jimenna culture.

Date of First Recording
In 1046 when the Byni stopped interacting with the Nemanoi the legend of the Watcher started to form and by 1200 it was believed almost universally on Nemani.
Date of Setting
