Filter Posts
Filter Posts are put up around cities and other places where air pollution is a problem in order to clean the air. The basically take the place of trees in the environment while new trees are being grown. They have activated charcoal filters and Hepa filters as well as particulate filters and these filters are accessible and easy to change using a lift. After the air is clean enough to support plant life seeds are added and they can be watered to encourage plant growth . This further cleans the air and the employees whose job it is to maintain them and take care of the plants are jobs added to the economy.
Utility
There are 3 important steps to making the filter posts work.
- Stop the pollution source from adding pollution at the same time.
- Deploy more posts than needed.
- Plant a diverse collection of plant life both in and out of the city to take over as soon as possible. Then the filter posts will have less strain on their filters and will need less maintenance
Eventually the posts are just a planter for pretty flower on every street corner.
Manufacturing
They are easily assembled on site but require some resources such as activated charcoal and other filter material and most importantly seeds of native plant life.
Social Impact
Adding jobs will help the local economy and creating beauty will help people feel better about their city. Having clean air to breath will change the overall health of the inhabitants and make everyone happier. It will also allow those who have been stuck inside to go out and that might encourage connection.
This tech was invented by Lenard Buchanon. He had the idea when he was a teen and it was his first invention of many. He was instrumental in fixing many of the environmental problems on Earth.
Because Filter posts are easy to transport and are self contained units they can be accessible to everyone and easily put out in any city.
I might upgrade them to include fans to move the air faster but that would use power and they would need to be connected to the cities grid which makes them slightly less self contained.
The actual function of the filters and then the plants is simple and based on the idea that increasing plant life cleans the air on any world.
The filter posts were invented on Earth in 2650 UGD and were used to clean the air in major cities like Calcutta and Detroit. The tech has been used on Earth for so long that it is just accepted as normal. When the Alliance took the job of helping in the Myrios universe this was one of the first technologies that they thought of.
