Backstory of Alpha Centauri Colony

There is a human colony on Alpha Centauri. The original colonists set off in a generational ship in 2285 and were followed shortly after by an Alliance vessel to ferry them to their destination once Centripetal drive was discovered and that shortened their trip by 18,000 years. Those original colonists who expected to live their lives out on the ship, got to build the first human colony instead.

There are 1000 people onboard with strict reproductive laws for 2 children maximum per family. The participants were chosen from a certain school grade and groomed up for their part in this mission. They expect to be the first of 650 generations onboard the generational ship which is sized to support 5000. They are also transporting a collection of frozen embryos who will be implanted in the women who arrive at the destination planet and that will assure genetic diversity.

They get a quick trip to Alpha Centauri thanks to the Alliance Centripetal drive ship but there are plenty of hardships to make stories. The planet is not what they expected. The climate is harsh and the wildlife is dangerous and it may even be inhabited. There is also bound to be internal conflict amongst the people onboard especially as they try to establish a government and society.
