The Lamplit Library
The Lamplit Library is a traveling caravan operating in Eren that specializes in acquiring, selling, and occasionally loaning books. It primarily travels through Asur Misoa, traveling from town to village. The library employs merchants, guards, cooks, and librarians and will also function as a supply point for various Tengu postmasters making their way across Eren.
The Lamplit Library, originally the Lamplit Caravan, was started by a Tengu named Ruxa Nota, who saw an opportunity in a grounded caravan focused on medium-weight packages that acted as a mobile resupply base for Tengu workers. As time passed, the caravan found itself stocking more and more books over standard parcels. This is mostly due to Ruxa hiring an eccentric wood elf named Ellery Snag, who found herself at home amongst pages as she did in the forests of her home.Eventually, Ruxa grew too old to run the caravan and handed the reins, in a controversial move, to Ellery. This move started the transition that turned the Lamplit Caravan into the Lampit Library. Quite simply, Ellery's fascination with books saw her repurposing the already successful business plan set up by Ruxa for maximum book purchasing and reselling, though only after Ellery had read through the book.
It typically doesn’t spend much time inside a settlement, understanding the strain hosting a caravan in a small village can be. This oftentimes makes the loaning process difficult. To counter this, each book loaned out is magically tracked so that it may return to the caravan the next time it comes near that book. This has occasionally sent the caravan on unnecessarily dangerous campaigns to recover lost literature.
The Lamplit Library has a strange hiring process. Ellery cares less about a person's individual skills and more about the stories they have made and will make. Simply put, she hires eccentrics and weirdos. Still, the employees of the Lamplit Library consider it their home and work hard to make it functional, profitable, and enjoyable for all who enter.
