A few mysterious stone gateways with an emblem of a flaming sword hidden typically somewhere nearby are hidden throughout the vast desert. They are nearly impossible to find. To outsiders, these gates remain firmly shut, but those bearing the title of Assassin can find entry and solace inside. Some say that these secretive hideouts were founded and built by the elusive remnants of the Sareli clans of nomads that went mysteriously missing in ancient times, these dwellings, and many of the people inside the actual kin of these folk.Life within the assassin's guild is as harsh and unrelenting as the desert sands surrounding it. Those who pass through the enigmatic gates leave behind whatever lives they once knew, embracing a world ruled by secrecy, skill, and survival. The guild operates like a shadowed marketplace, where every interaction is measured, and every service has a price. Status within the guild is earned, not given. Reputations are built on success, and failures are seldom forgiven. From silent infiltrators to ruthless killers, each member’s unique talents determine their rank and respect. Members speak little and trustless. The guild thrives on discretion, with personal histories buried as deeply as the bodies they leave behind. Actions and accomplishments define identity here, not words. Despite their fractured pasts, guild members form a tight, unspoken bond. They share the common understanding that loyalty within the guild ensures survival; betrayal, on the other hand, is met with swift and brutal retribution.
The Assassin’s Guild originated in the harsh desert of the Rogue Sands, where survival is a test of strength and cunning. Forged by this unforgiving environment, the guild’s members thrive in the shadows, embodying the desert’s brutal philosophy: only the strong endure.
In The Golden City, the northern city-state, the ruling highborn look down on the nomadic humans, elves, and beasts of the desert. Many guild recruits come from these marginalized groups, hardened by the sands and seeking power and protection. Outcasts, mercenaries, and thieves flock to the guild, trading loyalty for resources and security. Their lives revolve around two driving forces: profit and survival.
The only deviation from this general existence for the Rogue Sands Guild is the secret force hidden amongst their ranks, a select number of their kind that wield a secret duty to uphold.
The Rogue Sands and their Assassin's Guild are a group of outcasts skilled in intimidation, information brokering, theft, and assassination. However, a secretive faction within the guild, known as the Ashen Veil, serves a higher purpose: protecting the Vault of Embers, an ancient ruin that houses the Gate of Fire.
Shrouded in ash and sand, the Vault hides a dangerous secret that the Ashen Veil has sworn to guard at all costs. Their ultimate loyalty lies in ensuring no one accesses the Gate's power or even learns of its existence. Any who approach with malicious intent—or come too close to uncovering its location—are met with swift, silent retribution. While the Ashen Veil carries out contracts and heists like the rest of the Rogue Sands Assissin's Guild, the Ashen Veil's true mission is the Vault's protection. Treasure hunters, rogue mages, and seekers of forbidden knowledge are prime targets, ensuring the Gate remains hidden and its secrets safeguarded.
