Mizalcoatl, The Dust Devils
The embodiment of the sands. Beings who reside amidst the various colored sands of the realm.
The Fairytale and The Beginning Once upon a time, when the sands of the desert swallowed up every ounce of life that crossed its path, a creature that played within the sands lived. A body the color of pearls, hints of life and green laced into its skin, small bits of plants growing between the scales. Its eyes are the color of the burning sun, golden and glowing. Wings on its back and where its ears should be. Scales covered its slithering body to reflect and protect it from the sun's rays. Red red highlights its eyes, and its tail holds fluff on it to kick up sand. A snake that protected and played in the sands for many years. It often scared poachers and played with locals of pure hearts. It often gave them presents of scale pearls since there was not much to give. Eventually, its scales were all given, and its skin was exposed to the sun's rays, burning it an auburn color. It began hiding in the sand to save itself from the heat, burrowing tunnels to make itself a home. Though, this home was lonely. The travelers could not see it within its home of tunnels, and thus, they never stopped by.Its loneliness in the days under the sun grew every moment of every day before it decided to build a home above the sands. It whipped up dust devils that spun about and whipped up the sands near it as it worked. Creating a home in the middle of the desert where travelers could rest, hunters would be removed, and mischief had a home. The dust devils that spun about the winds and helped create the home were given a human-like or animal-like form, depending on how they felt being perceived. They filled the large home and kept it clean and tidy for visitors. They would hide in the walls or turn practically invisible to evade those who wanted to harm the home. They also caused mischief on those who visited, often pulling fun pranks till their creator grew angered. The dust devils would eventually branch out and leave to pursue their own lives. The original dust devils that helped build the home never left and thus were given gifts. These gifts would make up the five circles of today when it comes to the Dust Devils. They stayed with their creator till his last day; as he grew old and his scales grew back, now of gold, he decided to try to reach the stars. He gave out his final gifts to each of his five children and flew up to the sky, still he was unable to be seen, the home shifting and sliding till it was nothing but a pile of glittering white sand. The five dust devils then lived wherever they saw fit, as their creator had wished. That is, at least, how the story of their creation goes. Whether it holds true is unknown.
