Interactions Between Kitsune & Unicorns
Ancient races living in the same forests, the unicorns and kitsune, held an intriguing history of cooperation and mingling.
The interactions between the Kitsune and the Unicorns can be traced back to long, long ago when both resided in the ancient Great Forest of Eren. Though most recordings of such interactions are uncommon, recordings that do exist are kept safe in a select few places worldwide. These two races commonly met and exchanged information between them in the time before the Hunts. These included: Culture, magic, knowledge, news, food, and more. When the Gates began to be studied thoroughly, the Unicorns could grasp and learn the elemental earth magic and the conjuring of some of the first rudimentary spellcasting techniques believed to have developed. Unlike innate magical abilities or other quirks or traits of the world, spell crafting, like any art, could be taught, adapted, and refined, and it is believed that unicorns held some of the earliest surviving methods for earth magic techniques used even today. The Unicorns are believed to have reached out and taught the Kitsune race how to utilize these elemental magics.
Together, the two races worked to discover and learn about the elemental magics, collaborating on discoveries and information. Eren's wood elves would also come to share ideas and techniques with the unicorns. During the Hunts, a period of heavy paranoia and prejudicial dogma among many northwestern communities in Eren, certain peoples came under scrutiny for what was believed to be an ever-growing corruption that threatened life as they knew it.
From this period grew the legacy of unicorns being hunted like animals and poached for their horns and other magical elements. The kitsune and devils/defleo were being hunted for being beings of misfortune, sin, and catastrophe. Both Kitsune and Unicorns, ever-trusted neighbors, did whatever they could to survive. During this time, the Kitsune would strive to adapt and master their growing traditions of illusion magic and vanish from the sight of the world, though this was not truly enough.
The Unicorns were not as fortunate in their defenses. Centuries later, when the Great Forest was burned to the ground by Eldra and her mighty horde of fellow dragons, the Unicorns found themselves without the safety of their homes. Both races sought their own ways to survive; the Kitsune would attempt to erase their presence from Eren in a great migration, seeing several Kitsune families scatter to different parts of the globe.
The Unicorns would attempt to hide away in their home, desperate to find some place of safety for themselves to live. Terribly, however, the unicorns would become one of the most severe casualties in the Great Burning, believed to have gone extinct in the ensuing incident. Meanwhile, kitsune indeed succeeded in becoming perceived as much the same, living reclusive, hidden lives under the guise of their own faked death.
