Griffon

Griffons in Drakengard are majestic, hybrid creatures with the muscular hindquarters of a lion and the powerful wings and forelimbs of a great raptor. Their golden eyes gleam with intelligence, and their feathers—ranging from dusky browns to gleaming silvers—are prized not just for their beauty but for their resistance to the elements. A mature griffon stands nearly twelve hands at the shoulder, with a wingspan that can eclipse a small cottage. Their bone structure is dense yet hollow in key areas, allowing them to fly without sacrificing durability, and their curved beaks can pierce even tempered steel when provoked.

Highly revered as both beasts of war and symbols of honor, griffons are bred exclusively in Featherlight, a mountain town steeped in centuries of tradition. These creatures are entrusted only to the kingdom's elite Rider Knights. From hatchling to full-grown sentinel, each griffon bonds with a single knight through years of rigorous training and shared life, from their first shared meal to their last charge in battle. This sacred bond, once forged, is lifelong and unbreakable—rider and griffon live, fight, and, if fate demands, fall together.
