Prevailent
Prevailents serve as an advisory force to The Crown, directly appointed by Their Sovereignty at any time in their tenure on The Greater Court of the Equinox. They are the highest serving rank within the monarchy with the single exception of The Crown, and therefore have power over both Equinaires and Solsitiers. Their access to and relationship with The Royal Navy remains nebulous and ill-defined in official documentation and has traditionally depended upon the the will (and connection to officers) of the individual Prevailent to exercise their authority over the royal fleet.
Appointment
Appointment to the rank of Prevailent can only be carried out by The Crown at their discretion. It is done on an individual basis and occurs whenever Their Sovereignty deems it necessary to appoint a courtier as an adviser on a particular issue.
Benefits
Prevailents serve an advisory role to Their Sovereignty and are asked to state their opinion on issues and situations before the court. The exact extent of their influence is dependent upon the number of Prevailents serving at the time and the favor of the individual in The Crown's eyes. Certain Prevailents of the past have managed to all but establish their regency over the galaxy while others have seen their power diluted by the sheer number of advisers serving.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Prevailents may be dismissed at the discretion of The Crown just as they are appointed. The reasons for dismissal are greatly dependent upon the policies of whomever occupies the throne at the time of appointment. Many Prevailents have served for life, while others have been sent back to traditional court life within a matter of cycles. Mad rulers have sometimes taken to executing their Prevailents as an unorthodox method of removal from office.
