Bonesinger
The bonesinger is a powerful undead creature arisen from the remains of a bard. In life, bards use their creative & musical talents as spellcasters, supporting their fellow adventurers in combat, exploration, & social challenges. Whether the result of curses or necromancy, a bard that had fallen in battle may find itself returned to the Material Plane as a servant to the forces of darkness.
A necromancer may create a bonesinger to support their hordes of skeletons, zombies, & similar undead. While not as powerful as it was in life, a bonesinger still remembers some bardic spells that it can use to weaken its foes & strengthen its allies. It's music is also dangerous for the unwary, for any that get close enough to hear the sinister melodies may be compelled to dance until they die.
Another possibility for the origins of a bonesinger is that of a bard cursed with undeath. Whether the result of an unfortunate adventurer running afoul of forces beyond their comprehension or a person that committed deeds heinous enough to be denied the mercies of the afterlife, a bonesinger can come to haunt a ruin or village where it once lived. These creatures may even gather a small band of undead that serve as a dark orchestra playing ethereal music to any foolish enough to venture close.

Innate Spellcasting. The bonesinger’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 14). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
- At will: Prestidigitation, Unseen Servant
- 3/day each: Blindness/Deafness, Enthrall, See Invisibility
- 1/day each: Revivify (only to return an undead creature from destruction), Sleep
Danse Macabre. While a bonesinger plays its instrument of choice, it is constantly surrounded by a 30' aura of barely visible dancing spectral figures. Any living creature that enters the aura or starts its turn there must make a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature begins dancing with the ghostly figures and spends its action making a performance check. If it rolls a 15 or higher nothing else happens. On a roll of 14 or lower the target takes 18 (4d8) psychic damage. On a successful save nothing happens.
Actions
Multiattack. The bonesinger makes two shortsword attacks.
Shortsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage.
Bonus Actions
Bonesinger’s Curse. When a creature within 60' makes a saving throw the bonesinger reduces the result by 1d4.
Dread Domains
Darkon. The lich king Azalin Rex was prone to turning those that dared oppose him into undead servants. There are likely dozens of bonesingers that continue to haunt the countryside of this fractured domain.
Kartakass. The sheer number of bards & other spellcasters with musical talents lends one to assume that a corpse that remains unsavaged by wolves & lycanthropes may rise as a bonesinger.
Dark Powers
Final Breath (XIII). The music of a bonesinger foretells its victims of their impending deaths, spreading fear to feed the Dark Powers.
