Ceruleum
Ceruleum is a powerful yet highly unstable and flammable source of energy in the Veiled Realms, mainly used by the Tertian Empire to power magitek engines. The Empire consumes vast amounts of it to power anything from airships to armored tanks. In contrast, Laëril citizens mostly use ceruleum to just power their airships.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Ceruleum is found in 2 particular forms throughout the lands, as a dark blue mineral that resembles a translucent lapis which must be processed into a purer form, or in pools of highly concentrated fluid. The liquid form of Ceruleum is a much brighter tint and emits light. It requires tremendously less processing to reach a useful state than solid ore.
Compounds
It is the main ingredient used in the creation of Ceruleum fuel, which is used to power machinery, aircrafts, weaponry and many more devices.
Geology & Geography
Though it is abundant on the continent of Teorcas, in Laëril Ceruleum is only found in a small swath of badlands in Northern Laëril.
Origin & Source
The exact origin of Ceruleum is unknown, however it has been noted to exist in higher concentrations in areas where magic remains undisturbed for long periods of time.
History & Usage
History
Around 60 years ago a brilliant Legatus named Solus zos Galvus, brought about a technological revolution with the discovery of ceruleum. It's technological applications kept increasing and as such mines were established specifically for it. From then on an insatiable Ceruleum hunger grew within the Tertian Republic.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Though it is abundant on the continent of Teorcas, in Laëril ceruleum is only found in a small swath of mountainous land to the north. These ceruleum deposits are monitored and controlled by the Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern of Ul'dah, as it fell within the city-state's land and they recognized the potential value of ceruleum. Ironically, the imperial army is the Concern's biggest customer.
Storage
Pressurized tanks are required for the safe transportation of Ceruleum, even its solid form needs to be protected from heat sources, requiring cold temperatures to not ignite. As the northern regions of Teorcas are below freezing temperature year-round, protection from heat during mining and transport can be minimised somewhat.
