World Ember Homework

This year for World Ember, my goal is to reach 29,000 words. It is only a little further than what I completed last year, but it feels like a meaningful push forward. I want to focus on developing several articles about the species in my world, giving them more depth, history, and personality. I also plan to expand the holidays I have already created. Some of them are barely sketches, and others are only names on a list. I want each one to feel alive, supported by traditions, foods, rituals, and the emotions tied to them.   Along with the serious worldbuilding, I want to give attention to some of the silly items that exist in my setting. They may seem small, yet they contribute to the charm of the world. I have been making a growing list of holidays and smaller ideas so that I have a clear direction when December arrives. My hope is that this preparation will help me stay focused and reach my goals this year.   I am also curious about the prompts that will be offered. Part of the fun of World Ember comes from the surprise of each prompt and the creative spark it brings. Sometimes the unexpected themes are the ones that unlock the best ideas.   For the World Ember Bingo challenge, I can already mark a few things as completed. I have read several books this month with friends, nearly all of them dark romance. I have no idea how that energy will translate into my writing this year, but inspiration has a strange way of weaving itself into unexpected places. I hope that the momentum from reading, planning, and dreaming will carry me through December and help me build another strong layer of my world.
