The War Between the Sun and Moon
"Darkness inevitably falls upon us, but we patiently await the return of the light".
Selenia is a land steeped in legend, its history woven with tales both wondrous and terrifying. Among the most captivating of these is the story of the Sun and the Moon. According to ancient lore, the Moon King, in an act of unfathomable will, cast a wish that plunged the continent into utter darkness for fifteen consecutive days each year. With the coming of this endless night, the world changes—shadows stretch long, sanity frays, and unspeakable horrors rise from the depths of the unknown
During these cursed days, vampires slip through the gloom, their hunger insatiable as they hunt the living. The wails of banshees drift on the wind, an omen of death, while whispers of a spectral hunt chill the bones of even the bravest souls. Fear reigns supreme, and as the first night descends, towns lock their gates, enforcing strict curfews. Doors are barred, windows shuttered—none dare wander beneath the blackened sky when Nightfall comes.
The Dae slip through the cracks with ease, slithering like shadows across the land to sow discord and unleash brutal attacks upon the weak and unprepared. Their cruelty knows no bounds, striking unseen in the black of night. Only when the first light of dawn crests the horizon is their devastation revealed—ruined homes, lifeless bodies, and the echoes of terror lingering in the morning air.
Yet, the Sun King does not abandon his people. In the rugged Craglands, he offers sanctuary to those who can reach its borders, his light a shield against the encroaching dark. Meanwhile, the Moon King watches from Shaunala, the city of stars, where he has taken his dominion. The origins of their bitter feud remain shrouded in mystery, but one truth is certain: every year, the darkness returns, and with it, the monsters awaken.
Despite the terror Nightfall brings, there are those who refuse to cower. Hunters and warriors—skilled in the old ways, armed with enchanted steel and forbidden knowledge—venture into the black abyss, seeking to defy the creatures that lurk in the gloom. For them, the darkness is not just a curse but a challenge, a test of mettle and resolve.
And then, as suddenly as it began, the long night ends. The first light of the Sun pierces the sky, chasing away the horrors that once reigned. One by one, the people emerge from their homes, trembling yet victorious, grateful to have survived another year of Nightfall. But as they look to the heavens, they know—so long as the Moon King’s wish lingers, the darkness.
This war of attrition has raged longer than memory can recall, for once the wish was made, it could not be undone. The Sun King, Thorin Dankil, and King Veil of the City of Stars—once allies, once proud protectors of the realm—have been locked in this bitter feud since the day they ended the Calamity, the great reckoning that threatened to unleash unspeakable evil upon the world once more. What was once a bond forged in victory has long since eroded into an unrelenting struggle, with neither willing to yield, and the world left to suffer beneath their celestial divide
This is a great myth to descibe what (I assume) is a natural phenomenon. I think it would be hard to live through fifteen days of darkness even without monsters rising. D:

It's not naturally occurring I had wrapped a campaign and King Veil still had his wish bracelet, so he wished for 15 days of darkness. We're currently experiencing Nightfall right now in my newest campaign. I let players occasionally do things that can alter the world at large. I agree about living through it sounds awful. Thank you for reading!
