Summer Camp 2025 Homework
Assignment 1
Nourishment is a theme with a lot of depth, and while most of the world is generally well-fed, there’s still room to explore how nourishment—or the lack of it—manifests in other regions. Some of the areas I want to focus on include:
- The Emberkin Goblins of Hollowveil Island
- Manatee Island
- Kanne’s Island
- Carabella
To fine-tune these regions, I plan to revisit my original Island Lore. These were some of the earliest pieces I wrote for this world, and they now feel like they need reworking and clearer definition. I’ve grown a lot as a worldbuilder since then—and now, with players actively exploring these areas, I'm encountering questions I never thought to ask myself when I first started. Their curiosity is pushing me to expand the lore in meaningful ways, and it’s clear that these islands need more depth and detail to fully come alive.
Assignment 2
Roots is the theme of this section of homework. As stated previously, I want to refocus on the island lore. I’d like to make sure more of the Islands of the Veil are fully fleshed out. We began on the mainland when Campaign 2 started, but now—after a year—the players have reached the islands, and there’s still much to develop. One major area I want to explore is the Tamaran Deeps: an underwater culture with deep, untapped potential. There’s so much there that remains untouched, and its roots deserve the spotlight.
What I’d change about my homepage? I might finally write that small primer article I keep putting off—the one that’s supposed to go under “Important Articles” all in one place. I’ve been meaning to get to it. I might also take a peek at some CSS to tweak the look a little. Overall, I do like my homepage, but writing that primer might make everything feel more complete and easier to navigate.
Going back and looking at my first articles? Maybe even rewriting them—honestly, I write so much better now than I did when I started. I’ve learned a lot about craft and storytelling since then, and I think revisiting those early pieces could really breathe new life into them. They’d feel more layered, more interesting. With Summer Camp coming up, working on the islands feels especially fitting—it’s the perfect time to dive back in and give them the attention they deserve.
Assignment 3
What transformations have the people in my world undergone?
That’s a big question—especially since my world is home to all kinds of people. Lately, I’ve been making an effort to explore my islands in more depth, so let’s start by talking about the Aquarrii of the Deep. They’ve changed significantly since making contact with land-dwelling races. These sea-dwellers live in the ocean depths all across the world, but that first contact with surface civilizations had a lasting impact—both on their culture and their identity as a species.
And it’s not just worldbuilding—some characters have undergone big changes too. If you’ve read A Spoonful of Penance , you’ll know Ana is starting to shift. She may even be beginning to feel remorse—or at least something close to it—as a result of her long imprisonment.
New Genres That Have Inspired Me
Lately, I’ve been drawn to some modern, contemporary writing—especially by authors like Navessa Allen, Brynne Weaver, and Emily McIntire. Say what you will about dark romance and slow burn, but there’s a lot I’ve learned from these genres. These stories have taught me how to make my characters earn their moments—whether that’s love, redemption, or something darker.
They’ve also shown me that it’s okay to add humor; the story doesn’t have to be grim all the time. I really enjoy writing tension, and these authors are masters of building it in different ways.
Emily McIntire’s Never After series, in particular, inspired me to look at fairy tales in a new light. You can fracture the familiar, twist the expected, and write something fresh. Even villains deserve stories too.
I definitely found some articles to love! There were definitely more I thought I would mention these two:
Starnova is a magical girl class that fully embraces everything magical girls should be—bright, bold, and unapologetically powerful. I loved that it didn’t try to downplay the genre’s heart; it just leaned in with full sparkle.
And The True Tale of Queen Lamia ? What a gem. It was a deep, complex story that beautifully explored how the Lamia evolved over time. I was genuinely delighted by the emotional depth and worldbuilding—exactly the kind of storytelling I love discovering.
Assignment 4
Tomorrow? Interesting. Well, for starters, I’m hoping to get my writing done after my morning routine—mostly in the afternoons, and maybe some evenings too. I’ve made plans to stick with that.
I have a short trip in July, just a small weekend away, but I’m aiming to finish my prompts around that time. I’m not starting late this year.
I’ve got my islands to flesh out—really work through and improve them—and that’s where I want to focus my energy. Also, I’m not worrying about making my articles perfect right now. It’s more about getting the information down in a clear, useful way.
I have people to check in with SK Mercury and everyone over the Nexus, of course my players!
I don't think I will share every prompt I write during Summer Camp, the ones that stick out to me will shared. I will be sending them right to my Discord, and probably the Nexus. I also have friends at the ready to Cheer me on. This year the goal is write and hit the goals I set for myself.
Good luck and have fun <3 I can't wait to see what you'll do during Summer Camp!
I can't wait to see what you come up with as well! Happy Summer Camp to you!!
