Richard the Cockerel
(a.k.a. Slayer of Worms, Betrayer of Feeders, First of the Roost)
It all started with a quest post on the job wall at The Golden Eye Ravens Adventuring Guild:
A simple trip to Tairntook Village. A lost hero among a flock of chickens. Magnus Chadbourne—legendary warrior, presumed dead, now believed to be... one of them.
The party expected feathers. Maybe some clucking. Certainly not what they actually found:
Yes, there were chickens.
Yes, there was a flock.
But Magnus? Magnus wasn’t just a chicken.
He was a giant, raging cockatrice—crowned, clawed, and lording over his feathered disciples like a barnyard demigod.
Oh, and the villagers? Full-blown cultists. Robes, chants, pecking rituals—the works.
What the cluck, indeed.
So, how do we get Richard the Cockerel?
After a harrowing fight against Magnus the Cockatrice—and getting him back to normal—the guild found themselves still surrounded by chickens and odd pieces of loot.
Jake picked up a shiny pendant with a chicken engraved on it—a flat, round stone set in a simple metal bezel. He rubbed his finger over it, and suddenly, he could understand chickens... and, well, most fowl.
Jake stood there in the middle of Tairntook as his guildmates looked at him.
"Bac Bwah! Bach bach bach Bach!!! Bach!"
They stared at him, wide-eyed, as the chickens began to cluck—and he heard hundreds of voices.
One voice among the many clucks stood out.
"I am Richard the Cockerel. First of the Roost. Slayer of Worms. Betrayer of Feeders. And now... you will be mine."
The voice was dignified and refined, spoken with an almost regal elegance.
"Come now, warrior man. Pick me up," Richard continued.
"My name is Jake," Jake declared—which, to everyone else, just sounded like, "Cluck Bach Cluck Jake."
"Carry me, peasant!" Richard clucked..
Richard now happily resides with Jake B. Ironhart in the guild Holy Fire Forge on one of the islands known as The Twins in the coastal city of Crystaltide.
Physical Description
Identifying Characteristics
Richard is known for his striking appearance as a massive cockerel, a creature of both beauty and menace. His plumes shimmer in vivid shades of red and green, while his body gleams with the rich hue of sunlit gold. His sharp talons are clad in small, custom-forged pieces of armor, each claw tipped for precision and flair.
A gleaming metal cover rests over his beak, polished to a mirror shine. Tiny blades are affixed to the ends of his wings—ornamental, perhaps, but no less dangerous. Atop his head sits a proud cockscomb of deep red and fiery orange, like a banner of war rising with every strut.
Specialized Equipment
Richard is equipped with a Bag of Holding, uniquely crafted in the shape of a tiny leather satchel that he carries at all times—strictly for Jake, of course. He guards its sacred contents with zealous devotion, treating the satchel as both a holy relic and a personal responsibility. None but Jake may touch it… and those who try often find themselves on the wrong end of a beak, a blade, or a very loud cluck of outrage.

"Do not question my honor. I have pecked kings and outlasted hawks."
"Bach-BWAH! Cluck-cluck cluck BAH! Bwa-bwa cluck-cluck-HAAAWWK!"
"This satchel is sacred. You touch it, you die."
"Cluck BWAH cluck. Bwak bawk CLACK bwawk."
"Do not mistake feathers for foolishness. I am deadly and decorative."
"Bach-bawk SHINY! Not dumb. Cluck-cluck Zzzzupt!"
I love Richard.
