Ginger Snapped

“Ginger, I must say—everyone thinks we’ve completely lost our marbles! But the truth is, my dear... they don’t know you. You snapped ages ago!”
— Butter Biscuits

Ginger Snapped is the doll often seen in the arms of Butter Biscuits. Decorated with an eerie charm, she’s bristling with ornate needles and adorned in candy-themed accents. Her dress is the soft, dreamy color of mint saltwater taffy, fastened with sugar-spun buttons and paired with glossy black button eyes. A crooked smile, embroidered in coarse black horsehair thread, stretches across her face. Her skin resembles gingerbread, but on closer look, it’s crafted from delicate crocheted stitches.

Her hair, made of enchanted fairy floss in pastel blues, pinks, and purples, is styled into two fluffy buns atop her head, while the rest cascades down her back in sugary waves. In front of each bun sits a swirl of glossy royal icing, artfully decorated with rainbow candy sprinkles. Tiny lollipops, whipped sugar dollops, and sparkling sugar pearls are pinned throughout her hair, completing her hauntingly sweet appearance.

Butter goes nowhere without Ginger, and she’s often seen talking to the doll—most frequently in the quiet of her private kitchen at the Celestial Confections Conservatoire. Whether Ginger is truly alive or simply a cherished creation remains a mystery. With her glossy black button eyes and crooked stitched smile, she has been Butter’s constant confidante, just like Mr. Tibbles.

It is known that the Goddess Vespera gifted Ginger—and Mr. Tibbles—to Butter, though no one knows for what purpose. Whispers swirl among the Conservatoire’s students: some claim Ginger suggests recipes to Butter in a voice only she can hear, while others swear they’ve seen the doll move when no one else was looking.

The students keep their distance from Ginger. Even the bravest among them glance nervously at the crocheted figure, especially when her shadow seems to shift ever so slightly on its own...

Some rumors whisper that Ginger isn’t just a doll but a fiercely loyal protector of Butter. Considering the harrowing tales of Butter’s travels across the lands of Selenia, many wonder how such a petite Halfling ever survived the brutal Plains of Uzrash—let alone her time at sea, fending off danger along the jagged coasts of Portcross. Perhaps Ginger is more than she appears. But Butter isn’t telling anyone her secrets—just like she won’t part with the recipe for her famed Honey Peach Tart.

Rumors

"I swear, I saw Ginger move once. Her head tilted just a little... like she was listening."

"Some say Ginger tells Butter what to bake. I think she’s just a doll, but... there’s something strange about her."

"Have you noticed the needles? I’ve heard they’re not just decoration. They’re connected to something darker, like magic that’s... alive."

"I once caught Butter looking at Ginger like she was... well, like she was speaking to her. And not in the way you’d talk to a doll. More like they were plotting something."

Rarity

"There’s only one Ginger—and the sugar witches say even that’s one too many."

Author's Notes

Ginger Snapped the Doll, amigurumi is an original parttern and creation by Sorianna Choate/ StillnessandSilence. I made this doll when I played Butter Biscuits in a friend's game, and it was an excellent tool for moving my roleplay forward and creeping my friends out. She orginaly created from the item I pulled from the Trinket table, a doll full of needles.
