Selere Mal'atre

Severe is an especially beautiful young woman with dark hair and red skin. She has an slender but athletic build that hides a deceptive strength. She has a thin and smooth tail that is in near constant motion, often betraying her emotions.   She has deep green eyes and naturally black lips and fingernails. She wears her hair relatively short, just slightly shorter than shoulder length. A tattoo depicting thorny vines is wrapped around the length of one of her arms.

Selere tends to dress very simply and modestly, preferring dark colors to match her complexion. Unlike most of the tieflings of the Twin Worlds who prefer to hide their fiendish features whenever possible, she prefers to walk openly, as if daring the world to judge her.   As she is a warrior-wizard like her father, she has two possessions that are most important to her: her spellbook and her weapon. Her spellbook appears very plain, looking like nothing more than a travel journal with a worn cover made of dark leather.   Her sword, however, is quite different. It is a fine longsword of a strange elvish make Selere has named Moonsong. Its hilt is decorated with the image of a crescent moon and it strikes with the chill radiance of moonlight. The engravings on the hilt are in a language unknown to the elves of the Twin Worlds.

Selere Mal'atre was born from a human blackcloak and the cambion that attacked her. Her mother demanded Eldain, as the nominal leader of the organization do something about what happened to her. He agreed to take the unwanted child to raise as his own.   She grew up with him, primarily in his home in the great city of Whiteriver. He did his best to provide a good and happy life for her, but it wasn’t easy when the other children avoided her, both in fear of her heritage and out of awe for her father.   After an incident with some of the local children, Eldain took her to the extraplanar city of Sigil to show her that a tiefling such as her was not a monster. She saw people like her and others far stranger living together and she was dazzled. This created a deep-seated love of the Planes and a desire to see all of them that she could.   In preparation for her life as a planewalker, he began to train her in both swordsmanship and magic. She didn't take to magic as naturally as he did, but with effort and practice, she grew into a capable mage on her own right. When her father deemed her ready, he sent her back to Sigil.   She had a few adventures across the Planes, including joining the planar faction known as the Society of Sensation, and taking up the worship of Eilistraee, a dark elven goddess of light, passion, and kindness. Others were too dark for her to speak of, but they did little to kill her enthusiasm for planewalking.   As she traveled, she began to hear reports of strange activity from the hordelings of the Grey Waste and discovered a plot to drag the Twin Worlds into that dismal plane. While investigating in Eroch, she met a company of adventures who were also looking into the issue and agreed to help them.   While doing some investigation on her own, she was captured by a cult known as the Nova Harmonium, who took her to Baator to break her will. Her father sent those same adventures she'd met earlier to rescue her, and she endeavored to travel with them to defeat the hordelings.

Eldain raised his daughter by himself, thus Selere has no real family other than him. His familiar Midnight was also always there, sometimes filling the role of a pet and sometimes one more akin to an older sister. She also had close relationships with the archmages her father considers friends, such as Ratagar of Rall.   As an adult, her relationship with her father is very complicated. She loves him very much, but resents the amount of time she spent in his shadow. She wants to prove herself on her own, but he wants to keep his daughter safe as much as any father would.   Conversely, she has had no real curiosity regarding her birth parents. She knows she is descended from devils and has been told her mother was a human blackcloak, however that is the extent of her knowledge. As one with fiendish blood in her veins, she always feared what she would find if she dug any deeper.
