Dominion
The glaive of Ansarien Ill'conter, this weapon is truly a work of art. The blade is mithril, and the handle is worked from fine mahogany. A large canary diamond is set into the blade and gold filigree is set into both the blade and handle, creating the ancient elven rune for "dominion" in the blade and a delicate branching pattern across the handle.
History
Originally, this weapon was given to the mad swordwizard as a gift from his teacher. Owing to hid ambitions, Ansarien named it "Cas'lessaren", or "Dominion" in the Common tongue. Over time, he added more and more enchantments to it until it became a powerful weapon. In the hands of its wielder, it was utterly deadly in battle.
The glaive eventually became infected with Ansarien's hatred, causing it to grow in power even more. It turned from a potent magical weapon to a true artifact of evil. It was so powerful and dangerous that it was imprisoned with him, so that it may be forgotten, too.
Just like its wielder, the weapon was released and became the mad mage's greatest tool, its power allowing him to create an army enslaved to his will. It remained by his side until the final battle where Eldain Mal'atre killed him with his own weapon. After the battle, it was taken by Eldain.
None have seen it since. It is believed that it has either been destroyed or sealed away in Eldain's mysterious sanctuary. Still, it remains a powerful symbol of what can happen when madness and magical power collide.
Significance
Like it's counterpart, Defiance, Dominion has come to symbolize its wielder. That, of course gives it a very sinister reputation. It symbolizes the hatred and tyranny of Ansarien, to the point that it is considered vile to depict it in artwork intact and unbroken.
Many equate the two weapons, some even considering them related in the manner of the Falling-Star Blades. This comparison is patently untrue, however, the misconception coming from the epic poem Dominion and Defiance by the master bard Vendil Dath'venn.
Powers
Dominion is a grim holdover from ancient times, and its enchantment is no exception. Much of Ansarien's force of personality is attributed, not to the man, but to the magic of his weapon. Dominion also allowed him to control entire armies of ensorcelled troops, but the exact mechanism behind this isn't known. Such a powerful weapon also must possess some sort of striking enchantment, but the swordwizard's skill with his glaive makes its magnitude impossible to determine without further study, and Eldain is not allowing such a thing. The enchantment is also believed to be restricted to elves, but only the truly vile would use this item.
