Trog
The prison known as the Trench is home to all manner of oddities. From giant four-armed, ape-men, to ultra terrestrial beings that exist far beyond any of mankind’s preconceived notions of reality. The list of monstrosities is endless. But there are none as bizarre in appearance as the Trogs. Unlike most of the inmates, this new breed of mutant was not the result of Mother Nature’s whims or supernatural forces, but man’s own genetic attempts at playing God.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Each individual Trog varies wildly in appearance, but some key elements remain across the board. But there are some positive trade-offs to the Trog's mutations. Their increased strength allows them to pry pressurized, steel doors wide open (assuming they still have functioning arms) and knock even the burliest of soldiers clad in Type-34 Riot Armor flat on his back. Their reduced nervous system grants them ridiculously high pain tolerances. Age has become a foreign concept to them since their cells don’t die. Making them biologically immortal. And this was just the prototype virus. One could only wonder what would happen if the Organization was allowed to further their research, or potentially weaponize the virus. But the advanced minds required to control the effects of the virus are now few and far between.
Growth Rate & Stages
The mutation process is extremely painful and many of the subjects died a horrible death in bodies so horribly deformed, that even their own mothers wouldn’t be able to recognize them. Those that did survive wish they hadn’t because their very humanity was taken from them. They transformed into what can only be described as looking like Karen’s unvaccinated children.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Voracious and due to their insanity, Trogs will attempt to consume anything they encounter. Even rushing down to attack other creatures that they really should do best to avoid. But then again, Trogs are not the smartest of creatures.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Despite being caused by a virus, the meat of Trogs is perfectly safe to eat.
Average Intelligence
The complete and sudden loss of a human identity would certainly enrage almost anyone. But most of the poor things suffered from another unforeseen side-effect: reduced cognitive capacity. In fact, many of their brains were too small to perform even the most basic of autonomic functions like breathing. Those that can still think are plagued by mental disorders. Such as vivid hallucinations, schizophrenia, and even multiple personality disorder.
Civilization and Culture
History
Records recovered by scavengers from Pre-Breakout computers reveal that the Organization started out with good intentions. The plan was to originally create a virus that would mutate human DNA just enough to make them more resilient to pathogens, viruses, and even kill pandemics before they got a chance to get off the ground. In a sense, this virus worked, but the effects were much more drastic than anyone had anticipated. The animal test subjects not only became more resistant but also stronger and more intelligent. Eventually, the Organization conducted an experiment that placed hundreds of human test subjects inside a sealed vault inside the Trench’s lower research labs and released the prototype virus. Unfortunately, the virus didn’t affect humans the same way it did animals. The end result are the abominations the inhabitants of the Trench colloquially referred to as the Trogs.
