The Abyssal Prison

The lowest point of the Trench's Lower Levels, the Abyysal Prison is the abandoned ruins of the Trench's lower prison systems where no light shines. Within which resides the most animalistic and dangerous of Supernaturals. Creating a cutthroat ecosystem that few enter and fewer still survive.

Geography

Darkness and Helpless. These two words, perhaps, are what best describe the Abyssal Prison. Like the Lower-Levels above, it is an endless twisting nexus of decaying steel corridors and broken structures that would be extremely difficult to navigate even if it wasn't shrouded in eternal night. However, unlike the Lower-Levels, which do still have some occasional light, either a lone bulb that flickers weakly, yet refuses to die or warmth offered by those from a created settlement to guide wanders, the Abyssal Prison offers no such comfort. The darkness is oppressive. It snares you, robs you of your sight, and tangles your competence. Slowly and methodically dissolving your willpower. Those who enter will find themselves bumbling around in the dark like a scared child looking for a light switch in a long dark hallway. The halls seem to be tighter and twist more and more, the floor creeps with the stirring of all manner of unknown vermin surrounding you at all times. It encroaches on your sense of control. It is as if the Abyssal Prison itself is toying with you.

Ecosystem

Basically made of German bedtime stories, the Abyssal Prison is home to the most violent, dangerous, and animalistic of the Supernaturals where predator hunts predator and there is no clear apex. Most creatures who thrive in this nightmarish abyss and call it home, are those who already resided from caves or other ecosystems where sight is useless. Meaning that most of them are completely blind, and instead navigate this void by sense of hearing, smell, or touch. They all sit in vast silence, waiting for something foolhardy enough to make a sound. Something like you. While you may be bumbling around in the dark, unable to direct yourself, they are aware of what is happening around them, and by extension, are aware of where you are. To those who enter this hellish realm of impenetrable night, know that everything that breathes wants your head on a platter. In the Abyssal Prison, the coast is never clear, and it will never allow you to let your guard down. With hungry mouths cramming every hall, this sicking quagmire will have one feeling as though they are on a platter being played with. It will destroy your sense of confidence and grip on the world.

Fauna & Flora

The Abyssal Prison is home to thousands of nameless horrors. Each worse than the last. Most of them remain, thankfully, unknown. The very few that have been identified are those that live the closest to the border between the Lower Levels and the Abyssal Prison, that occasionally wander up into the lower reaches of the Lower-Levels in search of food.

Perhaps the lowest on the food chain aside from you are the Gulpers. Large-mouthed lizard-like creatures that swallow their prey whole. Anemonies sit anchored to the ceiling, their long tongues, covered in paralyzing toxins, dangling down. Ready to snare anything that comes into contact with them. Next are the fishman-like Fog crawlers. Their bioluminescent frills and fins are perhaps the only source of light you may see. But beware. Fog crawlers generate electric fields to stun their prey. More still horrors live in the depths of this nightmare world. Such as pale-fleshed, scaleless, blind, cave dragons that slither through the dark like worms; three-foot-long crustacean-like creatures with bio-luminescent sails tipped with poisonous stingers; and a black, alien fungal growth that appears to be partially sapient.

As even powerful beings residing in the Upper and Lower-Levels shudder in revulsion at the thought of what lies in the Abyssal Prison, it is unknown what other horrors lurk deeper still, and may we never know.
