Proxima Midnight

Unknown (a.k.a. Proxima Midnight)

Proxima Midnight was Thanos's adoptive daughter and a member of the Black Order. She joined her father in his quest for the six Infinity Stones.

Physical Description

Physical quirks

Her legs are cybernetic from mid-calf down, replacing her natural hoves and tardigrade legs with Kree-like limbs more suited to the wide variety of terrains on which she was required to fight.

As a result of generic manipulation and cybernetic enhancements, she has a lifespan far in excess of a normal member of her species. Most Bolivar have a natural lifespan of around 120 years, while Proxima is currently 123 and yet appears to be in only early middle age.

Special abilities

Proxima Midnight is nigh-invulnerable, capable of surviving atmospheric entry without protective gear, falling or jumping tens of meters without breaking bones, and going to toe to toe with her siblings without recieving more than minor cuts and bruises.

She has superhuman strength, speed and endurance.

Specialized Equipment

She weilds the Sunspear, a quasi-magical weapon crafted for her by Thanos <WIP> in celebration of her victory over the Lethal Legion.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

She was born on Var, the throne-world of the Bolivar Union, a small intra-stellar empire in the Fornax Galaxy.

All Bolivites were required to complete a period of military service. Although she excelled in the military, she was frustrated by the lack of active combat, and choose to leave as soon as she completed her mandatory service.

Instead, she took a job as a guard on a trading ship leaving the planet, jumping ship as soon as it made port to sign on with another, less reputable ship, eventually taking a role as a guard and enforcer on a slaver ship in the Galactic Rim.

It was during this time that a catastrophic failure in a laboratory studying Faster than light travel resulted in Var and six neighbouring planets being sucked into the Negative Zone, all but wiping out the Bolivites in this dimension.

This event pushed her deep into nihilism, and she abandonned what few morals she had retained, becoming a mercenary and assassin working for the worst of the worst among galactic criminals, warlords, and tyrants.

This career eventually lead her into the sphere of Thanos.

Although never one of the true believers in Thanos's cause, she resonated with the way it took destruction similar to that which she had survived and gave it meaning and purpose, rather than the pointless tragedy she had grappled with. she also quickly developed the greatest respect for Thanos as a leader and warrior, which cemented her loyalty, and she was adopted as the second of Thanos's children.

When Corvus Glaive joined Thanos's cause a few years later, they quickly fell in love, something Proxima assumed she was no longer capable of after her period of depression and nihilism, and married the following year.

She remained a loyal servant of Thanos and one of his most trusted generals over the decades that followed, participating in countless battles, wars, and genocides in his name.

Gender Identity

She considers herself a woman by the standards of Bolovites, and this has not changed despite the decades she's spent exclusively interacting with other species who have very different conceptions of gender and gender roles.

Education

She recieved the legal minimum academic education, leaving school as an adolescent. She then enrolled in the military, undergoing full Bolivite basic training, and later advanced combat training.

Since leaving her homeworld, she has dedicated herself to the study of combat and military tactics, and is one of the most dangerous mele combatants in the universe.

Social

Family Ties

She is deeply devoted to her husband, Corvus Glaive, and as a strong relationship with her brother-in-law, Cull Obsidian. She frequently finds Ebony Maw irritating, as she has little interest in or patience for the type of mind-games and long-game plotting he employs.

Her relationship with her younger sisters, the Daughters of Thanos, is more contentious. She deeply disliked Black Swan, and was glad to hear of her death, is irritated by Nebula, and considers Moondragon a self-obsessed liability. Only Gamora does she have any respect for: initially as irritated by her as her other sisters, she developed a grudging affection for her after she saved Proxima's life during the War of Planet Ryas.

Although legally his adoptive-daughter, she does not consider Thanos to be her father or even her family in any meaningful sense, but she does hold affection and deep respect for him, and is unquestioningly loyal.

Author's Note
Proxima's species and origins are both unknown in canon. What I have created here is the result of my going through literally every alien species ever to appear in a marvel comic until I found one that looked close enough to her film appearance to be plausible.

Although her species is never confirmed in the comics, her visual design suggests she's probably intended to be Kree. However the movies redesigned her to such a degree that this no longer makes any sense, hence the much more obscure species I have assigned her here.
