Krazios
An ancient Titan ritual, by which Monarchs, Tribal Chiefs, and Warlords would reward warriors or other subordinates who had demonstrated exceptional loyalty, bravery, or skill by welcoming them into their household as a krazios, or 'wine son'.
Krazios were entitled to the full honours of their adoptive parent's rank and status in the same way as their biological children, and were typically granted an income and staff or retinue similar or equal to any biological children.
Krazios could inherit land or property, although they would be at the bottom of the order of inheritance, below the youngest biological child. Additionally, they could not inherit their adoptive father's name, and if a ruler died with only karzios and no biological children, their line would be considered to have died with them.
However, krazios would usually be preferred over blood children when it came to official posts and offices which required actual skill such as general or war-master, managing government or palace departments, leading raids, or managing sensitive information or espionage, since they had already proved themselves both skillful and loyal, while biological children could not necessarily be trusted to be either.
The tradition largely fell out of use during the age of technology, and was lost completely when Titan was destroyed. However, it was eventually revived by Thanos, who adopted five krazois, the Black Order and Black Swan.

Execution
During the ritual, the ruler formally announces their intention to adopt a krazois, then names the candidate and lists the deeds which have earned them the honour.
Ruler and krazois then share a ritual drink, traditionally alcoholic or otherwise intoxicating (hence the name 'wine son'), which is the point at which the relationship becomes official.
Finally, the parent will bestow a new name onto their newly adopted krazois, which may be addition to their existing name, a replacement for it, or used only on specific ceremonial purposes, depending on era and region.
