Klyntar
A sapient species from the planet Klyntar, notable for forming symbiotic bonds with other organic lifeforms; they are commonly referred to as symbiotes for this reason.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Klyntar are amorphous, lacking any organs except eyes. Xenobiologists have been unable to detirmine how they are capable of cognition, when they lack any brain - at present the dominant theory is that they have neurons throughout their bodies, making their entire forms brains.
They do not need to eat or breathe, and are capable of surviving in the vacuum of space.
When bonding with a host, they are capable both of living fully within their hosts body, and of forming a protective outer casing for their host.
Some xenobiologists have argued that they should be considered truely alive, but this is a fringe theory and not widely accepted.

Genetics and Reproduction
Symbiotes reproduce asexually by budding, generally only being capable of producing one offspring in their lifetimes.
Growth Rate & Stages
Klyntar are do not have an infant or child lifestage - all symbiote are physical and mental adults from their moment of birth. However, they are capable of growth, which seems to be linked to the number of hosts they have had.
However, there is no record of a klyntar reproducing within the first galactic cycle after their creation - it is unknown if this due to some physical maturation being required which xenobiologists have no been able to uncover, or if this a purely cultural limitation.

Dietary Needs and Habits
When bonded with a host, they feed on the phenethylamine produced by the brains of most organic lifeforms in the galaxy, however this is not necessary for their long term survival, and they do it for their own pleasure. Some symbiotes consume flesh - either devouring their hosts from the inside out, or compelling their host to hunt live prey.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They do possess primitive eyes, capable of distinguishing light from dark, but otherwise percieve the world by detecting minute vibrations in the world around them.
When bonded with a host, they can access the host's sensory perception.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
Symbiotes are capable of bonding with almost any organic species, although they show a clear preference for animals over plants, and seem to generally prefer sapient species. Kree appear to be their most common targets, although it may be simply that the organised structure of pre-Civil War Kree society meant these indicidents were more likely to be recorded than instances of bonding with other sapient species.

Naming Traditions
Klyntar do no uses names among one another, however they recognise that using a name is necessary when dealing with other species. They tend to pick single word nouns from the language of their current host, but these names are generally discarded or replaced when moving to a new host. In rare cases, they may develope an affection to one name, and retain it even when changing hosts, but this is rare.
One interesting cultural oddity is that the nouns used are rarely names - they are more often objects or concepts. They are usually words associated with strength, conflict, or death, e.g. War, Poison, Scream, etc.

Major Language Groups and Dialects
Klyntar have no spoken or written language, as they communicate telepathically.
When bonded to a host, they appear to be capable of absorbing their host's native language, and are capable of communicating verbally as well as telepathically.

Culture and Cultural Heritage
The memories of a Klyntar are passed in full to their offspring at the point of budding. As a result, they possess a generational memory, with each subsequent generation possessing a greater breadth of knowledge that the previous one.
