Fates

A trio of sisters who have the ability to see the pasts, presents, and all potential futures, of all living beings.

They are believed by many inhabitants of the Nine Realms to be responsible for writing those lives, although whether they craft, record, or simply observe those subject to their gaze is a a matter of debate, complicated by the fact that they are part of the mythology of most European religions, as well as the Asgardian religion, and those of many of the cultures who inhabit the Archipelago of Anguish and Redemption.

They inhabit the Well of Wyrd, accessed from the Winding Way. They have close ties to the Weaver Witches of the Tapestry Islands, although the exact nature of this connection is unknown, as both the Norns and the Weaver Witches choose to keep much of their workings hidden.

Structure

The Norns are made up of three sisters, known as Urðr, Verðandi, and Skuld to Norse Pagans and Asgardians, while Greek and Roman religion named them Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos.

Each is responsible for a different aspect of their role: in the Asgardian and Norse version of their mythology, Urðr watches or crafts the past, Verðandi the present, and Skuld the future. Alternatively, Greco-Roman belief holds that Clotho spins the thread of life, Lachesis weaves it into the tapestry, and Atropos cuts it, choosing the moment each mortal will die.
