The Hostile Takeover

The Pleiades Corporation began simply as a corporation, an economic entity dedicated to dominating the market for fusion energy and space transport. By 2066 that ambition had grown and, in a five year series of well planned actions, The Corporation executed a "hostile takeover" of several national governments on earth, leaving The Corporation both an economic and political power throughout the solar system.

For two decades The Pleiades Corporation became an engine of prosperity and progress for all of humanity. They quickly gained a series of powerful exceptions to many national laws. What few understood, and almost no nation expected, was that the ambition of The Sisters stretched far beyond simple economic power. In 2066 The Corporation initiated the first political takeover of a nation-state, when the elections of The South American Commune were effectively bought. The Corporation wasted no time, and by early 2067 the Commune government was disbanded and all political power turned over to The Corporation. Additional "engineered" elections continued, and the next nation to submit to Corporate control was the vast nation of New India, which accepted Corporate control only after being threatened with complete shutdown of all power systems in the nation. By 2070 all political and economic power on Mars and Luna was likewise vested in The Corporation, as well as the United African States on earth.  The Corporation changed tactics after 2070 to a less hostile, and more persuasive approach.  The "Hostile" takeovers ended, but the growing dominance over every aspect of life throughout the solar system continued.
