The Three Continents
The world of the three continents is world of in the grip of a tenuous peace. The Pact of the Three has bound nations into mutual support for centuries since the last Abyssal invasion, when demons and devils set aside their differences to attempt to plunge the world into eternal darkness. It was turned back only when the nations of the world allied and fought as one. Such a victory should have been the start of a golden age of cooperation, or so historians would tell you.
The truth is much more prosaic. The truth is the Pact of the Three was made in extremis and the nations only cooperated under the leadership of truly legendary heroes who were bound together in brotherhood. When those heroes passed from this life, so too did the bonds that held the nations together. The peace remained, but it was tenuous and very much peace only in the sense of the absence of formal, open war. Asmistani slavers still kidnapped Ulfir and Talakan as fodder for their auctions. Tacians still aggressively patrolled their borders, warning against any intrusion by foreigners.
In present day, as summer withers away to autumn, whispers of war are everywhere. The Ulfir tribes are rumored to be unifying under Drakkfell Chieftain Bodvar Sturlasson. The Tacians are upping recruitment for their already formidable military, speaking of an effort to expand their borders, to take back what they gave up in the Pact. More rumors of war abound, and the council of Pax Magna has never been less effectual. Decades of military cuts and corruption have neutered the council's ability to field an effective force to deter war.
Stranger things too are happening. The savage beastfolk in the north of Ulfgard are growing anxious and roving further south than ever. Many credible sources have reported the rising of ancient ruins in the south seas.
This is the world you step into. This world is not kind, it is not one full of light and hope. You'll have to bring such things with you, but if you have what it takes, such uncertain times are rife for great deeds. This is a time of change and perhaps the Creator brings the right people into being at such a time as this, heroes and villains who can shape the fate of the world.
