The Disappearance

They'd been picked off one by one over months before then, but that was the one that broke them. When Sharlot herself disappeared, that's when it started to fall apart. Then with the death of Kasret and the disappearance of Sif, the only original member left was the hobgoblin, Durdeg.
Hobgoblin. No one knew that word, at least no one who was letting on. We all know it now, of course.
It's a little surprising looking back how easily he and the bugbear were accepted. Or maybe not - there are dozens of different humanoids out there, who knows where any of them are from. Just acknowledged members of the Shenanigans had the hobgoblin, bugbear, a couple of humans, what turned out to be an angel spawn, and depending on how free you're willing to get with who counted there are goblins and constructs and who knows what else.
But the constant ones from the stories - Sharlot, Sif, Durdeg, Kashak - when they were all gone, that was it. Leto's still around, but he's back with his father. The few others are ones that you've either never heard of or only heard of separate from them.

Summary

The Shenanigans entered the Dune Sea seeking the lost city of Halcyon and the guidance of Fate to preserve the jewel. Unknown to them, the forces of the great Jan sought to thwart the designs of Fate and converged upon the Sea. Land and Sea, Fire and Air, each Jan bent the world towards the lost city, and the Storm of Storms was born.

But the Shenanigans were not deterred in their quest and continued towards Halcyon. They battled djinn and efreet, dao and marid, and made it through the storm to the crystal spires. They met the Sphinx and sought its wisdom, and were weighed and measured. But while the Sphinx questioned, an old friend plotted betrayal and attacked at their most vulnerable.

When the storm cleared, no trace of Sphinx or spire remained. Fate had plucked their threads, and they will be woven into the tapestry when needed most.

Historical Basis

Shortly before the Southern Solstice, members of the Shenanigans were seen in Carrida. One group consisted of the then-current roster of adventurers - the hobgoblin Durdeg, the kobold Kashak, and the aasimar Ajere. Durdeg's creation Omnius was there, although whether he was a possession or a person has never been firmly established, so he is generally considered in the same grouping as the other support such as Valnir, Angus, and the shield guardian. In addition, Sif was also spotted in the area, although not with the others in the group.

All members had left the city several days before the Solstice, headed towards the interior of the Dune Sea following the Manara trade route. None have been seen since.

During the Solstice, one of the largest storms in Carridan history hit the Dune Sea, and the Shenanigans were likely lost in the storm.

Spread

The legend is well known in Carrida, although more of a curiosity than anything else. The Shenanigans were only known through the bard on Hellonde, so the group disappearing was a worthy tale but did not carry weight.

The legend has spread quite wide throughout Helion, especially the western half, although not all tellings are the same. In much of the land, particularly in Londe and New Sulae, the story is a cautionary one of great heroes reaching too far and being wiped away with nothing to show. In Corellum and most of the wild lands, it is a hopeful tale of heroes who sacrificed to be ready to stand against whatever is to come.
