Myconids
Mycological Assassin Project - Executive Summary
The Mycological Assassin Project (MAP) is the spin-off of the Underground Agriculture Research Project with the goal of weaponizing the mobile fungi created in that project. The project can be considered a qualified success at this point; however, further research is recommended to refine control over the assassins.
The advantages of the MAP as assassins are clear and fulfill the project goals adequately. They are resilient, able to take significant damage while they live, and can easily overwhelm civilians or less-trained soldiers. Highly trained warriors or skilled casters can likely defeat lone assassins, but in groups, they should be able to overwhelm even large squads of trained combatants.
Rather than attempt to increase individual combat ability, the focus was on creating larger numbers of assassins. Various quick-reproducing pyrophilic fungi were incorporated into the design to allow them to spread quickly and reproduce rapidly. A combination of Aspergillus and Psybocylin allowed them to infiltrate the lungs of targets, shutting down their brains and turning them into incubators for new assassins.
If anything, the project has been too successful. The assassins are a formidable force, and with their many advantages, it would be difficult to seize control of them if they go rogue. We recommend them as a doomsday weapon, left in multiple locations with significant geothermal energy that can be made to detonate in the event of future calamity.
