Order of the Gauntlet

The Order of the Gauntlet was a coalition of morally upstanding warriors, knights, paladins and clerics who dedicated themselves the destruction of evil in Faerun in the 15th century DR. They were a unified group, bonded by either their fervent religious beliefs or staunch dedication to enforcing justice in the realms. To these brothers and sisters in arms, evil had to be dealt with and could not be ignored.

Structure

The Order of the Gauntlet had five ranks assigned to all their members: Cheval, Marcheon, Whitehawk, Vindicator, and Righteous Hand.   Vindicators were most often the heads of regional bases for the Order, such as the Vindicator of Waterdeep or Elturel, while there was rarely ever more than one Righteous Hand.

Public Agenda

The Order of the Gauntlet had three basic tenets:
  1. Faith is the greatest weapon against evil—faith in one’s god, one’s friends, and one’s self.
  2. Battling evil is an extraordinary task that requires extraordinary strength and bravery. Punishing an evil act is just. Punishing an evil thought is not.

History

The Order of the Gauntlet was formed in the beginning of the 15th century in order to create a unified force of holy knights that sought to do good.   In 1491, Onthar Frume, Vindicator of Waterdeep, joined Harper agent Ser Vich and the Breadwinners in uniting the forces of the Sword Coast against the reformed Cult of the Dragon. This effort lead to the creation of the Council of Waterdeep, where Righteous Hand Hagnak Stonekeep represented the Order of the Gauntlet.   The Order of the Gauntlet participated in both the Battle of Hardbuckler and the Battle at the Well of Dragons operating alongside the forces of Neverwinter and the Kingdom of the Woods.
