Neverwinter Guard
The Neverwinter Guard is the current police, garrison and military force of Neverwinter. Its current guard captain is General Mog Trembor, a Half-Orc woman.
History
The Neverwinter Guard, as it currently exists, was officially formed during the New Neverwinter project undertaken by Dagult Neverember in the middle of the 15th century. Its original forces combined many of the armed militia groups that existed within Neverwinter that had refused to leave following its desolation in 1451 and mercenary forces loyal to Lord Neverember. As part of Neverember's coin and claim revitalizing the city, the independent defensive groups were slowly absorbed into a unified organization that became the modern guard.
During the Great Dragon War, many members of the guard left Neverwinter to campaign against he cult of the Dragon, fighting with particular distinction at the battles of Hardbuckler and the Well of Dragons.
Following the Great Dragon War, the Neverwinter Guard began expanding beyond the borders of the city proper as part of Neverwinter's growing influence over its neighbors. In 1493, a garrison of the guard was dispatched to Saltmarsh to protect the coastal town from the pirate Sea Princes. and the guard remains there to this day. Similar guard outposts can be found in and around the settlements that joined the 1496 Neveren Alliance.
In late 1496, the Neveren Guard was also involved in a series of clashes during the Neveren Orc Riots that were secretly orchestrated by the aboleth S'gothgah, who inflammed preexisting tensions between the mostly human guard and the orcs in the city's northern districts. Though the riots generally ended following S'gothgah's defeat during the Attack on the Neveren Trade Fleet, the perception of the guard has been tainted by those events.
