Catengolm
A town with splendid vistas, rebuilt after numerous Conflicts.
Catengolm is a remote region inhabiting the nodular moon systems of the Upper Rumopon Belt. A small town nestled against the Leandel River, Catengolm has seen generations of History. From Riverbank Road and Leandel's Bridge, where marriage ceremonies and processions gather, across the lanes of Meither's Garden to the other side of town, to the vineyards and windmill silos of the rich farmland, Catengolm is a vista on an otherwise unstable Moon.
Catengolm's History is marked with War, from the battles that formed the old Warpath road to the old ghosts and Spirits that haunt old dwellings and abandoned courtyards. Both Life and Death find a balance in the decadent town of Catengolm, where the graves are tended by watchful care-takers. Once in a while, a small relic or broken weapon turns up from the old fields of battle as swords became plow-shares. Generations of soldiers chose peace as farmers.
The Spirits of many Deities are said to favor Catengolm. There's the Archivist, that watches and gathers his panoply of secrets from across the Moons. With ethereal tendrils, the Archivist connects itself across a vast web, with many eyes open, recording all that is observed. His followers enjoy writing the annals, History of Catengolm, and other manuals for their vast archives. Hidden alcoves in libraries pay tribute to the Archivist, where secret knowledge is accessed.
Then, there's Cipher, the God of Games and War; of Chance and Order. Cipher exists in the clergy of Catengolm, where they built the House of Chance. First, and primarily, it acts as a municipal building, where civil matters are held and discussed, and bureaucrats collect records. Secondly, and more popularly, it's an Auction House, where treasures and real estate are traded in commerce. Commoners and nobility share their destinies at the House of Chance. The Priests of Cipher also enjoy officiating ceremonies or festivals where games are played. Marriages and divorce are all handled at the House of Chance for public display.
While many Deities are recognized in the town of Catengolm, there are few as misunderstood as the presence of the one who lingers within the empty spaces, Shifter. An ancient and primal entity, Shifter occasionally chooses certain individuals within the town to favor, for no particular reason than they had gained their attention. Shifter is the oldest Deity in the town of Catengolm, though their worship is secretive, clandestine. Several locales, such as Feast's Street, are attributed to Shifter, where ritual intoxication and hedonism occurs. If a brawl spills onto the streets, Shifter smiles, believing it good for their Spirits.
Catengolm, with its host of Deities and Spirit, is home to many of the Moon's most prominent artisans and merchants, finding themselves among generations of Catengolm denizens. Conflicts against Moon-Beasts, encounters with gaseous Ring Buffalo, and peril from asteroid trains and their riders all have jeopardized Catengolm at some point in History. After each new devestation or conflict, the town of Catengolm rebuilds as the people know that the ancient history, majestic locales, stunning vistas, the fine food and local Catengolm cuisines, rich Culture, and breath-taking sprawl are all worth fighting for.
