Niall Brightshadow (Nye-uhl Bright-sha-doh)

Ormythas Aurethion, the Gilded Seeker (a.k.a. Niall Brightshadow)

Niall is a gold dragon with a restless spirit and an enduring fascination with the mortal world. Once the eldest and most promising among his kin, he turned away from a life of draconic tradition to walk among humans, seeking knowledge and new experiences. His time among them was not without cost—captured and bound for years, he endured exploitation that left him wary and slow to trust. Despite this, his curiosity remains unbroken, and he continues to observe and learn from humanity, drawn by the very world that once betrayed him. In his true form, he stands as a towering, regal presence at 12 feet tall at the shoulder and 35 feet in length, while in his human guise he appears as a striking man of 5’11” with an intense, unyielding gaze.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

In his human guise, Niall carries the quiet magnetism of someone who has seen far more of the world than he lets on. His golden-amber eyes, warm yet piercing, seem to weigh every soul they meet, their faint inner glow betraying a power far older than his youthful appearance suggests. Thick, dark brown hair, kissed with hidden golden undertones, falls in natural waves and curls, framing a face of strong lines and sun-warmed olive skin. Standing at 5’11” with a lean, athletic build, his movements are fluid and deliberate, the kind of grace that speaks of both predator and scholar. In his true form, Niall becomes a vision of draconic majesty—scales gleaming in metallic gold with undertones of bronze, horns sweeping back in elegant arcs edged in black, and talons sharp enough to shear steel. At twelve feet tall at the shoulder and thirty-five feet from snout to tail, his presence is as imposing as the storm-warmed winds that carry him, his golden-amber gaze blazing with the untamed might of an ancient dragon.

Personal history

Niall “Ormythas Aurethion” (Or-mih-thahs Ow-reh-thee-on) was always considered the black sheep of his kin, despite being the eldest of his clutch. Born among the golden peaks and sunlit aeries of his kind, he carried the same brilliance and majesty as his siblings, but his heart was turned toward the horizon. Where others reveled in hoarded wealth and ancient tradition, Niall found himself drawn to the fleeting, unpredictable nature of humanity—their art, their ingenuity, their stubborn will to thrive. Against the counsel of his family, he left his ancestral home to walk among mortals, believing that true wisdom came not only from centuries of life, but from understanding the lives that burned bright and brief.   His fascination, however, became his undoing. In human form, he was captured—bound by cunning magic and iron discipline—and held for years by those who saw his draconic nature as nothing more than a source of power to exploit. The experience left scars deeper than any wound, instilling in him a wary mistrust of humans and their ambitions. Yet, even in the shadow of betrayal, Niall’s curiosity endured. He still finds himself lingering on the edges of mortal life, watching, listening, and learning, even when instinct tells him to turn away.   Now returned to his freedom, Niall walks a careful path between two worlds. To dragons, he is Ormythas Aurethion, eldest and unbowed, a relic of golden might tempered by strange mortal wisdom. To humans, he is a reserved, sharp-eyed stranger with a presence that feels older than stone. Whether in scaled grandeur or a man’s skin, his purpose is unchanged: to seek knowledge, guard it well, and decide—on his own terms—whether mortals are worth the trust he once freely gave.
