Leonin
Leonin naturally inhabit Terra Novis, which they dub the Prideislands. Colonized by Vallencourt, they have since forged their own nation and their own nation after the Great Eruption and were instrumental in founding the new Philosophers' Republic. In ancient times, they were known for their ardor in physical combat, but these days prefer oral debate and verbal confrontation, and are known as master debaters, orators, and poets. Endlessly proud, they regard themselves as cultured and civilized. However, Leonin hold a dark secret - should they taste blood, they may go into a blood frenzy called the Lion's Shame. For this reason, the majority are vegetarians.

History
Many say Leonin are too proud; that they carry their ego on their sleeve. Indeed, such a preposterous notion I have never heard. Is it the leonin's fault that she is the better orator? Is it the leonin's fault that her words ring close and far and strike people at their very souls? Senselessly we do carry ourselves forth in this prime exuberance of expression, art, philosophy, and so forth, we deign to call civilization; while other races may labor they cry out, for, alas, words poorly expressed may be words not expressed whatsoever. Herein arrives the leonin, for our educational programs are supreme, and we weave language itself, in all of its beauty, to formulate and articulate altercation; to mediate and motivate those whose reason is repribate. In short, we are just proud enough.
