After the western conquests, Karlomann turned his attention to the south.

The city state of Etenzia was the capital of the old Faland Empire, so taking it was necessary to cement the new empire's legitimacy. On top of that, Etenzia was deeply involved in the slave trade and Karlomann outlawed slavery. Karlomann attacked the city in the late Spring; however, the city held out and winter was fast approaching. His response was to bribe one of the defending captains, who opened the city gates and let Karlomann's army in. The city was taken and the other city states paid a heavy tribute to the New Faland Empire to avoid getting attacked.
