Culture

Shared customary codes and values

The main value is that of a form of tolerance. Those of the Southern Swamps will trade with anyone, regardless of who or what they are. However, they travel to other lands to trade. Outsiders are only welcome in certain locations of their swamps to prevent the theft of their dyes.

Common Etiquette rules

Flicking one's tail for dragonoids and bowing slightly for humans is customary greeting.

Common Dress code

While lizardfolk don't wear clothes, the Southern Swamps value a lot of jewelry and feathers dyed in numerous colors as dress.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

A host is supposed to offer a guest a drink, which they are supposed to accept.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Children born or hatched in Southern Swamps culture are baptized by being placed in water and, if they are lizardfolk, allowed to swim around a little bit.

Coming of Age Rites

When Southern Swamplanders come of age, they are sent to travel out with a merchant caravan to give them business experience.

Funerary and Memorial customs

For the Southern Swamps, the dead are placed deep in the swamp and left there to be reclaimed by the land.

Common Taboos

The main taboo of the Southern Swamps is to show outsiders the process of making dyes. This is punishable by death.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The Southern Swamps culture holds those who have less signs of physical labor as more beautiful, as it means that they are high enough status that they don't need to work physically.

Gender Ideals

Lizardfolk are not as sexually dimorphic as humans, so they do not have gender ideals.

Relationship Ideals

Lizardfolk do not have relationships, they reproduce and move on.
