Shared customary codes and values
Fearlessness, loyalty, and valor are emphasized by the Northern Swamps.
Common Etiquette rules
Northern Swamplands culture requires individuals to great each other by beating their chest. Commanders are to be greeted by a salute of arms.
Common Dress code
Beings of Northern Swamps culture present themselves for war. Lizardfolk don't normally wear clothing, so they carry weapons with them everywhere. Humans present in the culture always wear at least light armor.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
One custom is scarification. Whenever a warrior wins a battle or a fight, they carve a scar into their body to celebrate the occasion.
Another custom is for warriors to drink a cup of wine before going into battle to prepare themselves for death.
Birth & Baptismal Rites
At hatching, or birth in the case of humans, a priest cuts their palm and drops blood on the infants.
Coming of Age Rites
The coming of age rite is the joining of a military contingent. These contingents consist of roughly 50 soldiers and are part of a three contingent division (in modern terms, it would be a company). The members of a contingent eat, sleep, and train together. They are seen as an extended family.
Funerary and Memorial customs
When a member of the Northern Swamps dies, they are buried with their weapons and armor.
Common Taboos
Fleeing in battle is a taboo punishable by a year of incredibly harsh training in the deep swamp or the desert. Most of those punished in this way do not survive.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Strength is beauty. The stronger the warrior, the more attractive.
Gender Ideals
Lizardfolk are as sexually dimorphic as humans are. As a result, they have no gender ideals.
Relationship Ideals
Lizardfolk don't form relationships. They reproduce and then move on.
