The First Drow Invasion

The Houses of the 9 caverns drow gathered together and marched out in force, intending to take the surface world for themselves.

The Conflict

Prelude

House Goldweb of the Nine Caverns spent ten years conquering the other provinces and turned its sights onto the surface world. Queen Keenash called the other houses together for this new invasion.

Deployment

The drow gathered and declared war, breaching the surface world on the 12th. However, spies revealed their plan and a human army was waiting for them. The human army was deployed up a mountain and the drow army had just got out of their tunnels, where they had a choke point.

Battlefield

The drow emerged in the mountains. Gravel covered the ground, making movement difficult.

Conditions

The drow had better supply lines and better-trained troops; however, the humans outnumbered them.

The Engagement

Keenash opted to wait and call in more reinforcements before attacking. The human general, Ronald Redfield, waited another day to see if the drow would attack. Seeing that they wouldn't, Ronald attempted to bait them with volleys of arrows. However, these were not very effective due to the cave walls. Redfield made the decision to charge the enemy force before more could arrive. The troops of House Goldweb were in the front and the Queen was with a group of spellcasters. The moment the lines engaged, the rest of the drow turned on Goldweb. They saw this as an opportunity to gain their independence and the battle quickly turned into a massacre.

Outcome

The drow invasion of the surface world was averted and the Goldweb empire collapsed.

Aftermath

House Redfield, which was recently entrusted with that portion of the mountains, used their victory as leverage to gain control of more of the mountains and justify their claim. House Goldweb was almost annihilated. Most of their leaders, including their queen, were dead. Goldweb never recovered from this.
