Silver Unicorn
Basic Information
Anatomy
A standard silver unicorn specimen, not accounting for disability or alteration, will be zoomorphic and quadrupedal. They have one head with pointed, rotating ears reminiscent of Equus Caballus, one on either side. They possess a large spiral horn protruding from the top of the skull.
They have two legs on each side of a torso with a loosely cylindrical ribcage, each ending in a cloven hoof. They have short, mobile tails ending in a tuft of fur and some have one elliptical type wing on either shoulder.
Genetics and Reproduction
Silver unicorns reproduce sexually via approximately 264 days (12 universal months) of mammalian pregnancy. Their typical rate of reproduction is one foal per ten universal years, with 12 months of gestational time and four months of recovery. Multiples, while extremely rare, are possible.
Growth Rate & Stages
Silver unicorns do not have distinct life stages, but rather physically mature slowly over the course of three years. They reach the milestone of being able to walk at least somewhat consistently on their own an hour after their birth.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Unicorns are flexible herbivores. Their appetites are very small and they can live off of very little. Silver unicorns have a notable preference for silver lucerne.
Behaviour
Silver unicorns are herd animals. Each herd has a lead unicorn which directs the rest of the herd. This unicorn is typically the largest and strongest female. While rare, silver unicorns can sometimes be found on solitary journeys, for unknown reasons. They will eventually return to their herd after they've accomplished whatever they set out to do. Many believe they simply want to explore.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
Metallic unicorns have long snouts with two outward facing eyes and contrary to their name, two horns, one short and round and one long and spiral shaped. As babies their jaws have 24 deciduous teeth with 12 incisors and 12 premolars. Mature male unicorns have 40-42 permanent teeth and females have 36-40 (dependent on number of canines).
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Silver unicorn herds are found exclusively in the Argentite Fields and the Garden of Ladon, but wandering individuals are known to take brief trips to other rings of Hell, or even to other planes for their amusement or unknown goals.
Average Intelligence
Most species of unicorn display an interesting level of average intelligence, which is somewhere between that of a small human child and a corvid. The majority of unicorns can understand common or concant if given the change to learn it, and all unicorns can remember different areas, migratory paths, and the threats that occupy them for centuries.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The horns of all subspecies of unicorn are full of internal nerve endings and esso circuitry. This allows them to be immensely sensitive to the chroma and energy around them, as well as the aura of those around them, allowing them to read intent and emotions. (This is where the myth of unicorns favoring pure hearted young girls comes from. Children are, generally speaking, devoid of actual malicious intent.)
Civilization and Culture
History
Silver unicorns were discovered in 65546 of the First Era.
Silver unicorns are usually somewhat stocky and round, with strong legs and chubby middles. There are some outliers of more powerful, muscular individuals, which are generally males on the larger end.
All silver unicorns have silver accenting, but their main coats vary with lavender, black, pink, white, burgundy, and very rarely orange. Their horns and hooves will always be silver.
