Husker

Basic Information

Anatomy

A standard husker specimen, not accounting for disability or alteration, will be anthropoid and bipedal. They have one head with one round, flat ear on either side.   They have one arm on each side of a torso with a loosely cylindrical ribcage, each with hands that have four fingers and an opposable thumb. Their fingers each have three joints and end with a flat, keratin-based nail. They have two plantigrade legs, each with feet that have five toes. Their joints and ligaments are soft compared to other mammals, and quite fragile.

Genetics and Reproduction

Huskers reproduce sexually via approximately 325 days (One universal year) of mammalian pregnancy. Their typical rate of reproduction is one baby per two universal years, with one year of gestational time and an advised year of recovery. Multiples are possible with twins occuring at appox. one in every 542 births and larger groups of multiples becoming less likely with each individual.

Growth Rate & Stages

Huskers do not have distict life stages but rather physically mature slowly over the course of 20 years. Huskers are born quite resilient, with their potent regeneration taking effect as soon as two months old. They're usually much larger than human babies, and arguably more developed. After approx. a week they reach the milestone of being able to walk and speak at least somewhat consistently on their own, though are generally not mentally developed enough to no longer be reliant on their parents. From there, self sufficiency is extremely varied and some will never be able to live without assistence from their communities.

Ecology and Habitats

Huskers are natural extremists, and thrive in the hot deserts of Stella and other dimensions with abundant Orange Chroma.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Huskers do not need to eat or drink as long as they remain under the sun, but do eat for pleasure or spiritual practices, frequently consuming ambrosia cactus. They are omnivores, though optionally so.

Behaviour

Huskers have no predators in the traditional sense, but have a tendency toward cautiousness. In most cases, huskers are timid socially and will not willingly attract attention to themselves.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Zombies are prone toward close knit communities composed of several large families, with the the most senior of each family serving as a matriarch or patriarch. These figures are not necessarily the authorities of their communities, but are often the centers or hearts. Leadership structure in zombie communities are varied, but often take the form of councils or parliaments, depending on the size of the community. Huskers are no different, though are more prone to patriarchal leaders than other zombies, and tend to live in smaller communities. Their leaders are most often family heads.

Huskers are inclined toward acceptance of other zombies, though are more fearful of other species. Their societal sense of solidarity with one another as a species is ingrained in them, to the point of racism among subspecies of zombies being inarguably almost nonexistent. Xenophobia in the form of actual fear of other species is very prevolent within zombie communities.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Zombies as a species have gradually progressed beyond the majority of their persecution. However graverobbing and abduction is a prevalent issue among zombies; specifically for the useful properties of their bodily fluids, organs, and bones. Their regeneration makes a single zombie an ample source of spell components and potient ingredients.

Huskers specifically are often victims of organ theft as their organs store abundant Orange Chroma, particularly within their hearts.

Facial characteristics

Huskers have relatively flat faces with two forward facing eyes, distinct, movable eyebrows, a triangular, cartilage based nose*, and proper lips and cheeks. Their jaws have 32 teeth, with 8 incisors, 4 canines, 8 premolars, and 12 molars. Their jaws are, on average, adaquately sized to retain their wisdom teeth.

*Many huskers lose their nose due to cartilage degredation or injury. A husker with a completely abscent nose is also considered normal.

Average Intelligence

Contrary to the stereotypes around zombies, huskers display impressive levels of adaptability, curiosity, memory, analysis, empathy, and humor. This intelligence is so ingrained that even when infected with Zinmortui, they maintain their problem solving abilities. Huskers are known to have genetic memory specific to their migration not found in other subspecies of zombie.

Civilization and Culture

History

Huskers were discovered as a species in 16086 of the Second Era. They had interacted with other species prior, but were first documented after a large herd visited Astrid's Roost and a scholar was so delighted with them he brought in as many as he could to record as examples of their species.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Zombies as a culture are cautious of other species, and will avoid interacting with other communities if possible. Huskers are especially cautious of other species as they're highly misunderstood. Their nomadic lifestyle provides few opportunities to quell fear between any given species and huskers.
Scientific Name
Vagus Solis
Lifespan
Will live until killed (Av 75 years)
Conservation Status
Vulnerable
Average Height
145-185cm (4ft 9in - 6ft)
Average Weight
35-80kg (77-176ibs)
Average Physique
Huskers have a muscular structure built well for long, slow trips. Their muscles and joints tear relatively easily, but repair quickly, giving them muscles with strength capacities greater than other animals with similar muscular structures. Unlike other species of zombie, huskers rarely tear their muscles and eat even more infrequently, giving them an emaciated appearance.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
The majority of huskers have skin ranging from dark brown to lighter honey tones. Their hair color is usually corolated to the darkness skin often having brown hair with vaired textures, though usually some variation of tight curl. Notably the palms and underside of their feet will always lack melanin, but not necessarily other forms of pigmentation. Their eyes will always be orange. Even when lacking actual eyes, they will have Orange Chroma in the sockets.

Trivia

  • A group of huskers is called a horde.
  • A baby husker is just called a baby.
  • Huskers are not mummies. Mummified huskers exist, but huskers are dehydrated zombies, usually with their organs intact.
