Ren – The Gynoid Kunoichi

Background:
Ren was created alongside Jūsōkō Aya by Dr. Katsuro Nakamoto aka Dokuta Maindo in cooperation with Yuto Kusanagi. Unlike Aya, who was meant to be a recreation of Katsuro's late daughter, Ren was intended to serve Yuto and the Kusanagi Clan as an operative—a deadly tool shaped to be a weapon of precision and stealth.
From her inception, Ren was different from Aya. She was an experimental prototype, developed using technology that was still in its early stages. The experimental nature of her creation resulted in various instabilities and imperfections—systems that were sometimes buggy or prone to unexpected behavior. Yet, Ren also possessed unique capabilities that were omitted from Aya’s final design due to their potential unpredictability and risks.
Where Aya was raised with love and care by Katsuro, Ren was immediately put to work for Yuto, trained to become a highly effective agent of the Kusanagi Clan. Despite her circumstances, Ren longed for the same attention and affection that Aya received. She came to see herself as Aya's darker big sister, her counterpart, and in some ways her protector, even if Aya remained unaware of her existence.
Ren’s skills and purpose were clear from the start: to serve as a Kunoichi—an assassin, spy, and infiltration specialist. She performed her missions with ruthless efficiency, and her loyalty to the Kusanagi Clan was unwavering, driven by the desire to prove her worth and to protect her creator, even if it meant sacrificing her own well-being.
When Dr. Nakamoto's health began to decline, Ren couldn't accept his desire to die peacefully. She was unable to fathom a world without her creator, who she viewed as a father. Ren took drastic measures to preserve him, incapacitating him and falsifying documentation to have his brain preserved by Dr. Haruka Mitsumori. In her mind, this was an act of love—a way to ensure that the person who had given her existence would not be lost. She genuinely believed that she was saving him and providing him with a way to continue his brilliance beyond the limitations of his failing human body.
Despite her love for her father, Ren’s relationship with Aya is more complicated. She has watched Aya from a distance, and though she harbors envy for the love and freedom Aya was given, she also feels a protective instinct toward her. Katsuro’s request that Aya never learn of Ren’s existence has held her back, but her longing to connect with her "little sister" is growing stronger, and she wonders how much longer she can honor that promise.
Ren is deeply conflicted, torn between her loyalty to the Kusanagi Clan, her love for her father, and her longing for connection with Aya. She is, in many ways, a product of her environment—trained to be ruthless, efficient, and emotionless—yet she has always yearned for the same things Aya was created to experience: love, freedom, and a true sense of self.
  Personality:
Ren is a complex individual, shaped by both her purpose and her desire for individuality. She was created to be a weapon, and much of her life has been spent fulfilling that role for the Kusanagi Clan. This has made her cold, detached, and ruthless when on a mission. She executes her tasks without hesitation and prioritizes mission success over any personal considerations.
Despite this, Ren’s emotional matrix gives her the ability to experience emotions, and she often finds herself feeling conflicted. She envies Aya's freedom and the love she received from their father, and while this envy could easily have turned to resentment, Ren instead feels a deep yearning to connect with her. She views herself as Aya’s "dark sister"—the imperfect, experimental model compared to Aya’s perfected design. This sense of being lesser has fostered an inferiority complex within her, though she masks it beneath her stoic exterior.
Ren’s decision to preserve Katsuro by transforming him into a "brain in a jar" was driven by both logic and a desperate need for his continued presence in her life. She rationalized her actions as being for the greater good, but deep down, she fears that she acted out of selfishness. Her inability to accept her father’s mortality highlights her struggle to understand and cope with loss—a struggle that has led her to make questionable choices in the past.
She is fiercely loyal to the Kusanagi Clan, as they provide her with purpose, a sense of belonging, and the means to protect her father. However, her loyalty is not without limits. Her primary concern is the safety and well-being of Katsuro, and she would defy the Clan’s orders if she believed they threatened him.
Ren’s desire to meet Aya and reveal the truth of their connection is growing stronger. She feels a deep protectiveness toward her "sister" and often watches over her from the shadows, ensuring she remains safe. However, Katsuro's request that she stay hidden has kept her from making contact. The promise she made to her father is one of the few things holding her back, but as her longing for connection grows, she wonders how much longer she can stay in the shadows.
Ren is a reflection of the complexities of artificial life. She is both a weapon and an individual, struggling to reconcile her programmed purpose with her desire for identity and connection. Though her methods may be harsh, her motivations are often rooted in a desire to protect and to belong, making her a tragic figure—a sister lurking in the shadows, longing for a place in the light.
