Artemis Reyes
Background
Artemis Reyes was born to Elena Skyheart, a Native American woman who suppressed her magical heritage, and Alejandro Reyes, a Spanish magician and wanderer. His childhood changed when his grandfather, Tawa'kon, initiated a ritual to bind the ancient cosmic entity Vhun'rakith, the Devouring Winter, inside Artemis, to prevent its return to the world. The ritual succeeded, but it left Artemis cursed with Vhun'rakith's powers, manifesting in terrifying ways as he grew.
Unable to handle the burden, Artemis fled at 12, wandering North America and struggling with the power and influence of Vhun'rakith. Along his journey, he encountered a shadowy figure who gave him black manacles to suppress the entity, granting him temporary peace. However, Baron Dire, a powerful sorcerer, shattered the manacles and forced Vhun'rakith to manifest physically, unleashing a catastrophic storm. After a titanic battle, the entity was banished, leaving Artemis free for the first time in years. Now 18, Artemis continues to wander while honing his magical abilities, with a new focus on mastering the mystic arts. Though free of Vhun’rakith’s immediate influence, he knows the ancient evil still waits, and he seeks to prepare himself for its eventual return. Personality Artemis is a young man of contrasts, shaped by his burdens and his desire for freedom. He projects a calm, almost stoic demeanor, but beneath the surface, he wields a sharp wit and a cheeky sense of humor, using it as a defense mechanism and a tool to disarm those who expect him to be overly serious. Years of struggling with the ancient entity within him have made him unflappable in the face of danger, often frustrating enemies who cannot intimidate him.
Despite his outward coolness, Artemis is thoughtful, constantly weighing his actions and striving to find balance in his life. Though fiercely independent, he has a deep sense of loyalty to those close to him, especially his girlfriend Elise Quinn, who has helped ground him during his journey. His confidence and humor conceal the lingering trauma of his past, as he works toward mastering his abilities and preparing for the inevitable return of Vhun’rakith.
Artemis walks a path of light and shadow, using his powers to protect those he loves while seeking to understand his true potential.
