Boots of Found Knowledge

In the Empire of Prasad, away from the eyes of watchful clans, the old ways are still respected. The meek, away from the stratified life of court, value most the experience of a life well-lived, following the teachings of Kumtahon, a son of Mercury now long dead.   Kumtahon's boots, a gift from Legs churning under a still pond, were made of a cotton-like material fleeced from the down of pegasi, but stronger than most leather, and feather-light, indeed.   Their magic was threefold:
  • They would not hamper him if he was in pursuit of knowledge, being as light as the lightest cloth.
  • They would record the knowledge, in patterns of ink over a sheet of the same material kept in Yu-Shan, whose length cannot be reckoned. Nara-O, Lord of Secrets Untold, he of secrets only one knows, guardian of the the Forbidding Manse of Ivy, smiles when asked if the material can run out of space to write, and says nothing.
  • If in pursuit of knowledge, should their bearer be grapped, captured or otherwise bound, they will explode in a torrent of feathers, bursting any bounds, and causing bashing levels of damage equal to however many turns of control any grappling attempts has remaining, should the binder not release their grasp.
  • History

  • Prasadi legend holds that the pegasi "fleeced" for this item were fleeced by friendly Shining Silver Pygmy Swans, at the command of the god of lesser waterfowl: Legs churning under a still pond.
  • Kumthahon bore these boots from the moment he was able to walk to his death.
  • They are rumored to be still wandering the Eight Directions, never staying long with a single bearer.
  • Any such bearer would be held in great reverence and authority by the common folk of the Prasadi, and at least one rebellion, early in the empire's history, was traced to ownership of the boots, until the bearer died of poison, and the boots disappeared.
