Asteroth
Asperin and Asteroth. The two gods of the South. One, the God of the Sanded Plains, the other, the God of the Golden Desert.
Asteroth is the loving god of the pair. She made her dominion barren and inhospitable to life to be a place for humans to struggle, a place to find oneself and discover what life is, and what to live for. She will guide those with right intentions through the desert, and provide just enough for them to keep on living.
Asteroth has a religious following of magically-enhanced knights, who all claim her name as their own as a sign of respect, and as a choice of leaving behind their self-identity to fully trust in Asteroth. The knights would have a cult-ish appearance to outsiders if anyone was able to find one, as they spend all their days in the Golden Desert.
Asteroth is both the name for the deity worshipped by the Order of Asteroth, as well as the desert itself. The Knights believe that she is the better provider for humankind, because she requires complete faith, giving their lives meaning, purpose and a goal.
Caregiver or Careless?
Asteroth does not withhold any hardships from either the unfaithful or her worshippers. Thus, the Golden Desert is equally inhospitable to those who worship her and those who wish to destroy her. The only group of people to survive in the Desert for any long period of time is the Order of Asteroth, known as Desert Knights to those outside the Order. Several city-states bordering the Golden Desert have made attempts to establish colony cities in the Desert, but none have lasted longer than a few years at most.
