Secret History of the Mongols
The Secret History of the Mongols is the oldest known document written in the Mongolian language, and is the only eyewitness account of the conquests and reign of Genghis Khan. Secret History also includes a partial account of the reign of his son and successor Ogedei.
Most of what we know of Borte, his principal wife, comes from Secret History.The Secret History was written after the death of Genghis Khan, sometime in the mid-13th century as an epic poem, at the behest of the Mongol royal family. It is considered a classical literary work both in Mongolia and worldwide. A gold-encased copy is displayed at the Government Palace in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
