War of Succession
Cause
When the Second Shogun died, he had not named an heir. The board of directors were divided on which of his two sons should inherite the seat. This conflict drove a wedge between the two brothers, exacerbated by the recent disapearance of their childhood friend, Tamahana Haruka.
The public and most of the board supported the youger brother, Rin.
Death of Yamamoto Rin
Shortly after the boards decision to make Rin the Shogun, he died in a spaceship accident. While accidents of that nature are fairly common, the timing was so unbeliavably suspicious that many immediatly assumed it was sabotage. It is still unknown if Kichirou or his supporters had anything to do with this.
Third Shogun
With Rin out of the way, weather by plan or not, Yamamoto Kichirou became CEO of Okuninushi Corporation. The board did not particularly like him because of the circumstances of his appointment and his order to construct Earendel Station, which was seen as a frivoulous use of money, did not help those opinions.
Assassination of Yamamoto Kichirou
Supporters of Yamamoto Rin that were sure of Kichirous involvment in his death plotted and executed a successful attempt on Kichirous life. He had only been Shogun for three years at that point.
Aftermath
Kichirou and Rin's paternal aunt Moriko took over as Shogun. The brothers' childhood friend, having lost both of their only confidants within a shiort time, commited suicide.
