The Rift

The catastrophic event known as The Rift marked the end of the Era of Reckoning. A massive earthquake erupted throughout the world, along the largest leyline to run through the core, and caused the continent of Andalus to split into two smaller continents, now separated by a narrow stretch of sea. The space that divided the once fused land became aptly known as "The Rift," after the historical event that caused it.

The cause of the Rift has been debated throughout history, but at the time of its occurence, many people, and especially non-magic users, blamed Chronomancy and the rapid developments the school of magic experienced during this time. Others blamed specific groups or governments for the catastrophe, and still others claimed divine punishment. Everyone pretty much agrees that it was the largest and most world altering event to happen in the global history of The Shattered Oceans. It has been recorded in nearly every history book since its ocurrence. When The Rift happened, there were dozens of towns, villages, and settlements that were swallowed up by the Sea. Over 50,000 lives were claimed, and the continent of Andalus was now divided and set on a course of navigating life with the Rift right in their backyard.

The effects of the Rift stretched up past the newly formed mega fjord and continent called the Tear of Pasiphae, and deep into the Southern Tripartite. Although the effects may seem somewhat delayed, they were a direct result of the rift; including the colossal eruption of the megavolcano on Zimura.
