The Planebreakers

The Planebreakers is the name of an organization independent from any known kingdom, monarchy, or nation. Founded and run by the mysterious and eccentric adventurer, Linus, the organization bears his title. The group is tasked with two main objectives: the recovery of powerful artifacts of the old world known as relics, and the locating of Plane Gates. It is Linus' belief that these items are best kept in the hands of individuals rather than governing bodies, believing that they are best used in the small scale for independent achievements rather than in the hands of monarchs or high councils who could wreak devastation with these items. Almost counter intuitively, Linus is fine with people outside the organization having these items, so long as they are judged a good candidate for said relic.   The Planebreakers consist of informants and agents spread throughout the Isles. The number of informants largely surpasses the number of agents, and their main task is to report mysterious activity that is potentially related to portals, unearthed ruins that could contain Plane Gates or information on them, as well as the sudden appearance of particularly powerful magic items that could be Relics. The level of information varies between informants, with some knowing they are part of the Planebreakers while others just think they're supplying intel to an information ring. Apart from these main tasks, others are in charge of managing front operations for generating coin for the network or maintaining safe houses for travelling agents.   If informants are the eyes and ears of the Planebreakers, the agents are the arms and minds that make things happen. Agents are given a lot of freedom to follow leads and head their own investigations. While Linus gives them intel and recompense so long as they make results, the mere act of being an adventurer usually leads to the discovery of places of interest for Linus. Some agents operate in small groups while others work alone. Some agents lead groups of their own who likely do not know they are connected to a greater network of people. When recruiting new agents, Linus favors those who have been touched by supernatural elements: divine, arcane, astral, or anything else, but he is not one to turn away talent when he finds it.   Currently, Linus' supposed death has ruptured the organization, causing some agents and informants to leave the organization after not hearing from the rest of the network for so long. In attempting to keep his survival a secret, Linus has a much more limited network of assets, resources, and personnel, only contacting people as needed. As such, the Planebreakers are much weaker now than they were only a year ago.

Communication:

Agents and informants of the organization are often entrusted with a special type of signet ring. They are embossed with what looks to be a broken face, but when twisted the right way show an L. These communicator rings allow Linus to directly contact the wearer for a ten minute conversation once a week, and the wearer can do the same to contact Linus. In general, Linus does not contact first unless requiring an immediate update, saving his uses of the communicator for urgent updates and changes to plans.

Active members of the Planebreakers:

Linus the Planebreaker: Linus is a fire genasi and a retired adventurer by cause of his partially missing spine. He has fiery hair and skin dark like coal, with red markings all along his body that glow like embers. The origins of this man are unclear and murky, as his long career as an adventurer has caused him to pick up items, accents, and clothing from across the Isles. His strange power to manipulate portals and create pocket dimensions are also at a level not normally seen in the Isles. He seems to be well into his forties, and even without his injury likely would have retired within the decade. He currently resides in his extradimensional manor in the ethereal plane, where his connection to the plane allow him to more or less stay in stable condition. He still remains leader of the organization, even if he is much more distant now, and manages his agents and informants via magical communications.   Lady Hurna: Hurna is a dhampir who does not wish to be a dhampir. Born on Centurna, it is hard to determine her age because of the youth associated with her condition. She had a powerful gift connecting her to the lingering energies of the old gods, a link which has since been shrouded and weakened by the process that turned her into a dhampir. She currently works as Linus' second-in-command, using her lingering gift for prophecy and divination to help his cause. In the process, she is working towards her own ends of finding a cure for vampirism and her own unique condition as a dhampir. She has dabbled in the dark side of magic before, and has no concern in doing so again if it gets her closer to her goal. She is currently in Esteri, operating with Tarmi outside the manor.   Kayla Shey: A cleric of Abel, Kayla is a human woman in her late forties. Following the teachings of Abel, she is a trained doctor and alchemist, so while her magic capabilities are powerful she is often maintaining Linus condition and attempting to find ways to fully restore him without the recovery of his relic, the Planar Medallion. Born in Centurna, she travelled to Esteri to serve as a war doctor, and would later travel to Regalia for the safety and training of her daughter Tarmi. She is a very wise and well-travelled woman, who has practiced medicine and learned techniques from across the Isles. She is currently on Esteri, staying in the manor to aid Linus' condition.   Tarmi Shey: Tarmi is a Green Drakyn, a human with dragon blood running through her veins that manifest in her green hair, scaled arms, and a draconic nature she has learned to control. The daughter of Kayla and a mysterious dragon father that disguised himself as a human, Tarmi was trained at Sky Crest, a town high on Regalia focusing on spiritual and physical advancement. Spiritual and physical training have manifested as a unique fighting style as a monk. She is currently in Esteri, operating outside the manor with Hurna   Hayden Biers: The son of crystal miners from Ishiri, Hayden was a gifted magical prodigy who studied at Gryndow Academy. After an accident in the school known as the Darkness Surge, he was afflicted with nightmares and his magic has been corrupted by exposure to the Shadowfell. He is currently in his mid-twenties with a constantly dour expression. While his magic is corrupted, he is knowledgeable about the mechanics of magics as well as more mundane elements such as history, making him the best agent for locating ruins in little traversed regions. He is currently operating in Drayden alongside Kylen Longclaw.   Kylen Longclaw: Born in Drayden amongst the Bright Fang clan, Kylen was a tracker and bounty hunter in the desert. His clan are followers of Matahari, the pheonix, and Kylen was blessed with some of those powers over fire. He came into the Planebreakers by the promise of a lot of coin, and has proven worth every coin as he takes his jobs seriously and efficiently. He is currently operating in Drayden with Hayden Biers.

Other Known Agents:

Festus Nitto: A tiefling man newly inducted into the organization. He is leader of a mercenary band currently tasked with guarding a group of archeologists and excavators clearing a ruin site near Melgrave. New to the organization, he's rather jovial and relaxed for a man in his position.   Burchen informant: Identity unknown.
