Hyperion Industries
For every ship that leaves this drydock, there's an 60% chance it's built by Hyperion. So what's your plan once you're out of guarantee?
Hyperion Industries, often abbreviated to HI, is a major ship and station building company headquartered in Bel Avenir. It is also the largest defense contractor by sales since 213 thanks to lucrative contracts with the Vestan Aerospace Defense Force. Hyperion Industries produces spacecrafts for both the military and for civilian consumers and businesses. While the lucrative contracts with the ADF have been a boon for the company's PR, its range of civilian spacecraft struggles to grow in sales.
Hyperion Industries is based on Vesta and its two moons, Vestalia I and II. HI operates multiple orbital shipyards and factories in the area, but also further outward in the Aurigan system. HI currently does not own any facilities beyond the system, but remains responsible for the construction of almost 60% of all ships built in Elysium. HI's construction works is renowned for its durability and versatility, as it enphasize modularity and ease of maintenance.
History
Hyperion Industries was founded in 96 to answer a need for a massive expansion through space. Using its influence on MINERVA, HI quickly became the go-to construction firm for any space-based project, earning a reputation for being unavoidable. As the demand for spacecrafts and space stations surged, shortages of resources and manpower became a serious issue for the newly formed company, and the same was to be said of its competitors. Still, as new factories, mines and refineries were built, HI and its competitors grew as one of the fastest industry of the time.
The industry continued to grow steadily until the outbreak of the Interstellar War. The conflict saw the destruction of many facilities belonging to HI, as well as the loss of many skilled workers. It would eventually take decades for HI and its competitors to recover, after which the demand for space assets crashed due to the Vestan Federation's isolationism policies. While Hyperion Industries stayed afloat thanks to its military contracts, many competitors slowly went bankrupt, only to be aquired by HI itself. After the end of this isolationism policy in the 280s, Hyperion Industries was the undisputed giant of space construction, and would remain so for the next century.
