Water of Life
The waters once flowed into these lands long ago, making them green and plentiful, but now they have run dry, leaving only sand and desolation where they once were. - Desert Elder
Summary
They call it by different names across the many tongues, Elem’lira in the tongues of the Elves, Zif’tir to the desert mystics, Shoho'loha in the Old Tongue, but most know it simply as the Water of Life, known for its healing properties. Yet it is no mere healing tonic, for it is said to be the first water, the original breath of the earth, formed in the moment the world awoke. It flowed from beneath The Spine when it rose from the earth, before there was fire, before there was war, before even the gods had names. Legends speak of a hidden spring, sealed behind time-worn stone and mythic trials, where the earth bleeds purity and the water flows not from rivers, but from the memory of creation itself. Breathing life into the Continent of Kinath and filling it with water to form the rivers, streams, and the sea, till it brought life to the land and all that walked on its soil. So long as the source flows, so shall life upon the land and the creatures that walk upon its nourishing soil.
The Water of Life is said to appear clear as air, but it dances with faint light, like crystals trapped beneath its surface. One drop upon the tongue is enough to do what no magic, medicine, or god can honestly promise. It heals wounds that should kill, restores youth to the withered, cleanses poison from the soul, and grants even the dying a final breath free of pain. More than that, it awakens those who drink it, granting glimpses of things beyond the mortal means to places beyond, but not without a price. The Water of Life does not heal blindly, for it judges, reading the heart of those that seek to claim it, should they pass its trials and searching for their intent. Those who seek it out of greed, vanity, or fear of death are said to drink only silence, tasting dust, and crumbling where they stand.
Those who seek it out of love, sacrifice, or the will to protect others may drink or gift it to another and live because the Water of Life does not grant immortality. It reveals the truth of life and death, in all its terrible beauty, and not all who seek it are ready to see the burden it holds. It's mark is forever left on their soul for knowing such knowledge, with many being unable to look at their reality the same ever again. Carrying a burden upon them that few can truly carry and use to their advantage, or adding others, yet those that do will have gained the sagely wisdom that few mortals can ever comprehend. As the old saying goes, “The Water of Life does not heal, it remembers, and it asks only that you do the same.”
Flowing Waters
All the water you see comes from the sacred waters; no matter how far they travel, there is always a source. - MysticAccording to the tales of the Water of Life, it is said to origins stems from a place known as the Spring of Memory deep below the mountains of The Spine were no one truly knows where it cab be found. Only that all the water that flows across the continent originates from, with many in the Eastern Lands that still believe in the old ways have come to believe that the water ways to the east have stopped or sealed for some reason resulting in their once fertile land turning to desert. Many have tried have search for spring, but few have every returned, making many to believe that only the worthy can find it or that it does not exist at all.
This sounds like there is a very VERY cut throat illicit market for this not far off (unless I'm being paranoid). The trouble this must cause. Is there any way this is regulated or even accessible across the world?
No one has seen actual proof of the water in the very long time and those that claim to have are swindlers trying to make a quick buck.
